Thinking of buying BF2 for Project Reality
I don't have BF2, believe it or not. I'm an avid player of everything yet I never got around to buying BF2 (I do, however, have BF2142, which I got bored of awhile ago).
The reason I didn't buy BF2 is because I'm not a huge fan of unrealistic FPS games and always prefer something realistic over something that is not. That, and between all the other games I was/am playing, BF2 never seemed to be all that important or worth buying.
I discovered this mod through the ModDB awards and I was thoroughly impressed. It looks awesome. I'm going to do some more research--but I have a few initial questions to ask before I look into it any further:
1. Servers? Are there many? I live in Asia, too... are there any populated, US/West Coast servers? I can't be bothered to buy a game if it's dead or sparsely played.
2. How much does BF2 cost right now? Do you think it's worth it?
Thanks a lot =)

There are severs based in China and Japan I believe, as well as ones on the West Coast.
Players currently on range from 700 to 1500 on average.

Re: Thinking of buying BF2 for Project Reality
whenever i do a server refresh i usually get about 140 servers. if your in asia your selection of servers with playable pings may be a little limited. however, im sure they are probably always populated. with bf2 being only 5 bucks these days, its definitly worth it. especially if you like realistic combat games, this mod ranks at the top. {in my opinion.} so in other words, less thinking, more buying.

I play with a few Chinese players on occasion, normally in mid-west servers.

Awesome stuff!
You guys are making me want to buy it. The reason location is important is because of latency issues, though I do get between 150-175 ping when playing on West Coast servers.
I'll probably buy it electronically through the EA downloader / Steam.
Thanks for the info =)

There are a couple of Australian servers, would that be better for you? However I think there are several West-coast based servers as well, though I haven't seen them populated as much.Incognito84 wrote:Awesome stuff!

Re: Thinking of buying BF2 for Project Reality
Heh, tried to find a price for BF2 from onlineshops since we planned to buy it for a friend. It was nearly 40$
And about 18$ in EA-shop downloads aswell. Sometimes you might be able to find a cheap one, like I did. I bought bf2 for PR aswell, I have only played the normal one for less than one hour on past years. Hope to see you in battlefield soon
There also one popular server in China which seems to be full most times of the day and few good ones in Australia. You should be able to get decent pings to them, even I can get ~130 ping to Tactical Gamer which is nearly 7000km away. Check that Game Monitor link posted earlier and you can do a little comparison already

Make sure, that you buy it from a licensed reseller, because there are also illegal keystores, which often sell their keys twice. Those keys often end up on banlists because Cheaters prefer the cheapest keys. Do yourself a favor and buy it from the store.

That's a problem for me, actually. It's happened before. I live in Korea, and "Korea" in Korean translates into: "the land of Starcraft and Media Pirating"KEIOS wrote:Make sure, that you buy it from a licensed reseller, because there are also illegal keystores, which often sell their keys twice. I bought a copy of Crysis the other year at Korea's version of Wal-Mart. Nice, big clean department store. Anyway, when I took it to the checkout they wouldn't let me take the box, rather they gave me the CD in plastic wrap with a CD-Key sticker on it. I found out the CD-Key was already in use but thankfully, I was still able to play it and play multiplayer.
I should be able to find BF2 here pretty easily. If I get a bad CD-Key I'll just take it right back.

You won't be let down as everyone else said, also as many others have said elsewhere, PR is the game I always wanted BF2 to be anyway. If you don't like unrealistic FPSes then you won't be disappointed.
