PR Future
I've only recently found out about PR through word of mouth, so I reinstalled BF2 and downloaded PR and now here I am.
The thing is, you've been going since 2006 (God knows how I didn't know about you before two weeks ago), and when I log in to play I'm lucky to find more than 7 or 8 servers with 16 or more players in.
So I suppose my question is..., are you really a growing community, or are you in fact a declining community due to the very nature of the gamers' desire to try the latest games.
So please tell, when was your peak? I really do hope your peak is yet to come, because this game is great, (the physics of it) but I fear I've joined PR too late. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Re: PR Future
It just won mod of the year and you think its already dead? sheesh.
The mod aint even hit 1.0 yet so I doubt PR is anywhere near dead, bf2 probably won't be the end of PR either they are already looking into making a stand alone game or even a mod on a new engine I don't know if it has been decided yet.
Really just look around the forums and you can see nothing is dead at all, look at all those factions that haven't even been released the 7000 suggestions, all the WIP dev journal stuff.

Re: PR Future
6-7 full servers 24/7 is really good for a mod, and PR is easily the most played BF2 mod.
I don't have any statistics for the PR servers, but I do know that if this mod's popularity is going anywhere, it's up.

Re: PR Future
I havent got any official stats but there was a message from one of the devs that there havent been as many players in PR since the latest update. So this community keeps growing. Couple that with the almost constant media coverage (PR was just featured in a finish magazine, and has a BF2 welcome message) and the awesome content yet to come, I can only say that PR is getting bigger and bigger.
Now its easy to find a server to play on. When I started ( I think it was .6) It was a bit harder.

PR has more players than BF2:SF most of the time, around 500-600 on a weekend or more. There are always servers to join.

Well you say you fear you joined PR to late but I am saying its not to late and the mod is no where near dying or dead.Rapid12 wrote:I have not said that. Is it busier now than it's ever been?
Also I have been playing this mod since the beginning and I can say it is allot more active now than before.
In the past it would be rare to even see 3 servers full of people at once now I go on and find 10 servers filled up with a bunch more half filled.

Drav, I log in to find around 140 servers, usually there's 3 or 4 with 64 players and then 4 or 5 with multiple of 16 players. The rest are empty.

Re: PR Future
Also remember most players are from the US and if you are on in prime US times there will be allot more servers active.Rapid12 wrote:Drav, I log in to find around 140 servers, usually there's 3 or 4 with 64 players and then 4 or 5 with multiple of 16 players. The rest are empty.
There are a **** load of servers and there will never be a time when all of them are full or close to full just like any other game there will always be hundreds of unused servers for some odd reason. Same goes for training servers there are a crapload yet only 1-3 get used ever.

Re: PR Future
Welcome to PR! I started with v 0.7 and have noticed a steady increase in the number of clans and especially the number of active servers. Being in the UK is a great place for PR pings. You can enjoy great pings on US servers located toward the East Coast as well as great pings on any Euro servers of which there are a plethora.
No need to worry then, in my opinion. PR is not going anywhere but up for the foreseeable future. It is also a community and if the engine were to become so obsolete as to be ridiculous the community would adapt and move forward in technology. Currently though I think you will be hard pressed to find a better multiplayer shooter experience anywhere if modern warfare is your genre.

Re: PR Future
I think the future of PR is strong, both the development of the mod itself and the playerbase.
Regardless of all the new releases there is still nothing that really competes with PR's strong points, additionally it continues to receive free publicity ontop of already being easily available to the massive BF2 playerbase.
Even future retail games of similar appeal will never have the advantages that PR has as a mod.
In my perspective even that is not a low amount of players, it's far more then many other mods and actually more then some recent retail games.
As for there being lots of empty servers, that's very common throughout most online games.
Take a look on here if you haven't already and compare PR to other games: Servers playing BattleField 2 | Server / Player Search | Game-Monitor.com :: Server Search, Monitoring, Stats and more

Re: PR Future
Hell, there are times at weekends evenings where you can see at least 10 full 64p servers. And then you spend couple of minutes refreshing your favourite and camping for a slot.
Rapid12 - PRs fate is far from dying. Enjoy the mod brace for more to come!

Re: PR Future
I saw about 1,800 players on at once just after 0.85 was released and now it's still managing 1,300 as you can see in this screenshot I took today on Game-monitor:

Notice the amount of servers with 50+ players.

I started back in .6 (i think it was), and only stopped due to computer trouble. Comparing now to then is white and black.
