I don't think it's dying in the sense we are at this very moment witnessing it dissolve.
But I think PR:BF2 is slowly slotting itself into the "Classic" genre as appose to a "Modern Shooter" genre... like what OPF is to Arma 2 or like a modern "Nintendo 64". People still play of course, but to say the player base will die off is too alarmist and in no way preemptive of any future outcome.
If anyone has a time-frame of how long BF2 has left then i'd love to hear it, I don't think you could assume anything with any degree of accuracy.

How many are left on BigD? Do you get 64 players anymore?
Also do you mean you can't connect to any other ~250ping server?

Ping up to 300 shouldn't really be a problem, I know a few guys from downunder that play on European servers quite often. Ping in PR barely influences your experience, as it's not based too much on quick reactions like most mainstream games.

You won't go victorious out of a CQB, though!

for what it worth, uFear put up new PR server, located in Dallas, TX, USA. If PR is not dead, come help populate it.

I'm sorry I don't know how it feels to lose a FF, I don't even...

. They could fill positions, which do not require a smooth connection like asset drivers, backup weaponry like ARs, mortars???, or just chill around on stationary emplacements. Meh I get the point, it's surely not easy to play with 300 but better playing PR with slightly handicap, than not playing at all, right?

Wow, brazen self-promotion and advertise for the win

I lose every single close-quarter fire fight on foreign servers, hence why I SL alot, so other people do the shooting for me.
The worst part is when using a shotgun, its nigh on impossible to kill someone.

I started playing PR like one week ago (I come from Arma 2 and old OFP) and I am absolutely in love with it. I have yet to find another game in which teamplay and voice comms are so core to the experience in public servers.

Absolutely not true. If I was engaged in "brazen self-promotion and advertise" I would have said that uFear has uFear #2 PR server and uFear #3 Crazy *** AIX2 FF OFF server. Now this would be "brazen self-promotion and advertise" as you mentioned.
