Everyone who gets it should put it on a site for others to access. Suggest some sites.

Ah dear, my download times just keep getting longer & longer & longer no matter WHAT method I use.

I give up. I'll download it in a few days or something... It's pissed me off way too much, I've had it nearly 3 hours now, cancelled the bloody thing...

Best downloads...

Post by Mirlen »

The best way to download is most likely via BitTorrent. It just makes sense for something that is popular, large and needs wide distribution since the load is shared amongst those that are retrieving it. I just started downloading it a few minutes ago and I'm at 500 kilobytes/second (~5 megabit). Not quite the full speed of my link but pretty good. Just make sure you open up port forwarding to your machine for the appropriate TCP and UDP ports and you'll find a lot more peers and get higher speeds. I'm also uploading at just under my max uplink speed, so I'm definatly contributing :)

Every one try first with DHT on, dont turn it of at the begining.

DHT is a backup line, try to use a BitComet, it's much faster
WiKi wrote: Properties

DHTs characteristically emphasize the following properties:

* Decentralisation: the nodes collectively form the system without any central coordination.
* Scalability: the system should function efficiently even with thousands or millions of nodes.
* Fault tolerance: the system should be reliable (in some sense) even with nodes continuously joining, leaving, and failing.

A key technique used to achieve these goals is that any one node needs to coordinate with only a few other nodes in the system – most commonly, Θ(logn) of the n participants (see below) – so that only a limited amount of work needs to be done for each change in membership.

Some DHT designs seek to be secure against malicious participants and to allow participants to remain anonymous, though this is less common than in many other peer-to-peer (especially file sharing) systems; see anonymous P2P.

Finally, DHTs must deal with more traditional distributed systems issues such as load balance, data integrity, and performance (in particular, ensuring that operations such as routing and data storage or retrieval complete quickly).

yeah I understand the frustration with torrent, it took me a couple tries to get the thing working properly. It can also depend on your ISP and whether they cap or block torrents. Once it is working it is very good, but for the Dev team it is the least expensive way to begin the distribution.

While I agree with the load sharing balance of torrents to save money for bandwidth, perhaps a fool-proof guide should be released with each news announcement regarding torrents. I'd say the majority of people complaining are the IE6 kind of user, right click and save target as.

Now, for torrent users, I personally use utorrent. utorrent comes with a option called 'Speed Guide' which is where you insert your connection speeds and it decides on the best settings. Im sure Azureus has a similar option, I don't use it though because its bloaty and utorrent is slim and does the same job.

Also, you MUST make sure your NAT settings are correct, which is the PORT you have forwarded to your IP. If they are wrong, the download will be slow.

http://www.portforward.com/ will describe to you how to forward ports for a specific program. The 'Speed Guide' section in utorrent also has a button to test if you have your port forwarded correctly. Use it.

Also note, the download speed will vary and will always ramp up as you connect to more seeders and peers.

Try reading the FAQ so a lot of this is explained - http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php

And very important, and has been stressed by other posters, leave the download seeding until you get AT LEAST a ratio of 1 (downloaded amount vs uploaded amount). Sure, pause it while you have a game, but reenable when you aren't using the computer, its the kind thing to do. And spare a thought for some of us in Australia with artifically limited ADSL speeds.
