On a quick note the inside of that bird is way to small. That thing is meant to hold a humvee and artillery pieces so thats very unrealistic. Also the ramp door does not seem big enough at all. So whoever made this model needs to just make the whole back side a litlle wider and open up the inside more. Im not telling anyone what to do but im just saying.

EDIT: also the wingspan could be a bit longer. I dont know the exact specs but ive seen many videos and what not and the osprey dwarfs the humvee and some arty but in these pics it just seems to small.

yeah, i already said that. the dev's haven't said who made it though, i would love to see it get ingame. fast way to transport troops across the map, though be hard to find good maps to implement this into.


Edit: oh yeah, i forgot, it can't fit a humvee or an artillery piece i it, those are to big, but it CAN airlift them. the model has close to the right proportions but it's not 100% accurate.

Nice video! I loved the drop of hydraulic fluid that falls from the overhead when you sit in the loadmaster's seat to open the door LOL!

Thirty people have died in four Osprey crashes,

There have been four significant failures during testing

Osprey crashes have resulted in 30 deaths. No one died in a June 11, 1991, Osprey crash, but a crash July 20, 1992, in Virginia killed three Marines and four civilians. The Osprey was grounded for 11 months after this crash. A crash in Arizona April 8, 2000, killed 19 Marines, grounding the aircraft for two months. Another crash in North Carolina Dec. 11 of the same year killed four Marines.

Of the four, three were caused by human error, including the much talked about vortex ring state crash (choppers are much more prone to this than the V-22). One was a computer programming error.

As for the issues on the carriers, since there is now 2 full squadrons of MV-22's in service with the Marines I'm guessing that's been resolved.

The Marines need something to replace the CH-46, its been flying for 45 years and is a piece of junk held together by duct tape and the sheer determination of the Marines who have to maintain them. Many of the "troubles" associated with the MV-22 are every day events in a CH-46. A popular saying in the 46' community is "If it ain't leaking its out of oil."

Anyway, enough side tracking the thread. PLEASSSSSE Give us the Osprey, the Marines want it, and so does the PRM crowd!

I don't know about that, I read that it may have a 50 cal chain gun mounted in a chin turret, although it was probably swamp gas affecting my memory.

By the way, thats the Rising Conflicts V-22, too bad the mod died, they made some really cool stuff.

and besides, i'd rather have this aircraft be left as a transport only, requiring some else to protect them

They apparently did intend to mount a chin turret on the Osprey, for purposes similar to those of the door guns on more conventional choppers. There are many sources (like this or this) that claim there was supposed to be a turret, either GAU-19 or some sort of a 50 cal, but apparently nothing ever came of it.

The thing is, in PR, having guns on something encourages people to use it offensively. It annoys me greatly when I'm the Blackhawk pilot, and the answer to my "where to" is "around, I wants to shoot stuff!"

VERY good reason not to put a gun on it

Nothing is wrong with using the Blackhawk to orbit an area and cut down enemy infantry.

It is very good to support your own forces like that, just watch out for the HMGs and RPGs.

BHs are not gunships. They're transport aircraft. Flying into areas of heavy combat is a sure way to get shot down. A real gunship is way more effective at eliminating enemy infantry AND armor, and also more capable of dodging enemy fire.

The guns on the BH should be used for support as you're dropping off troops, and not for orbiting the flag like a damn Spectre gunship, asking to be shot down.

anyways, the Osprey has to be supported by Cobra's

the only way it could be put into PR is for fast transport across big maps, it would be faster than the BH, and as long as it's careful, it can inert troops safely

No, but my brigade commander whom I worked with as a security detail for about 4 months was. His name was Col Michael Steele, you might have heard of him. Yes, they were used in the initial defense as gunships until the second chopper went down. The movie is rather horribly inaccurate in its portrayal of how the air to ground operations were carried out in the Somalia incident.

So, the question now is, were you there?

Or in Iraq/Afghanistan campaign to say how blackhawks are/aren't used?

My pet peave is that the UH-60 should have M240's in it, not that dumb chaingun as only 160th hawks have those.
