Someone take this to the server admin subforum along with a link to the Dragon Valley change thingybob and see if any of the large PR servers are willing to try it using clean vBF2 patched to 1.41, is my suggestion.

he has changed the .exe and now he changed the map size cus even if he allowed more then 64 server side client side was still crashing so by setting the map size to 128 the client side might see that there could be more then 64.

0.75 will be using a dedicated PR.exe rather like FH2 does, if that's of any help...

I'm guessing that changing (sounds less illegal :-P ) the .exe isn't law friendly either huh?
A small hex edit change likely wont be an issue with EA. That's a change that is not distributed and does not compromise copy-protection. It's worth a shot for sure.

I concur. Given the fact that the modification is only server side, and actually quite innocuous, it seems likely that EA won't even notice, and if they do notice they probably won't care.

If you got the patch, we got the server and players to boot.

hmn... I just looked around the thread (no matches)

Would multiple servers be possible? Each one takes care of 64 people... it'll stay within the 64-per-server limit...

clustering... maybe... not... dunno...

Custom shaders become possible

No. In my layman's understanding of it - PR.exe simply loads up BF2.exe and tells it a few additional things (like where to find custom shaders and how to use them).

I was going to try and explain it, but then I realized I didn't really know...so, yah.

Anyhow, as far as I know, it only effects the shaders, and of course BF2 must run, or else PR would be a bunch of stick figures on your screen (with really good suppression effects).

The TCombat server will attempt this on our new Linux server when it's in place. Right now it's on the way to the datacenter. So by 28th-29th It should be good to go.
It's Running (4) cores @ 2.6ghz With 4gb of ram. Tons more juice than the current TCombat server.
