The AK101’s flat-trajectory range against a head-and-shoulders target is quite impressive, matching that of the longer-barreled M16A2 barrel (450 meters); the same can be said of its single-fire accuracy. Meanwhile, the Russian assault rifle outgunned its US equivalent in firing at a target with a bulletproof vest; this can be explained by the RS101 bullet’s improved design. The Russian weapon also delivers more effective automatic fire, particularly from unstable positions.
The AK101 is lighter than the M16A2, and it takes 0.5 seconds less to aim the weapon. In the meantime, both assault rifles have more or less the same combat rate of fire. However, the AK is much more dependable than any other assault rifle in the world. No one needs highly accurate but unreliable weapons. That’s why those who value their lives prefer the AKs.

Probably so. In any case, I wouldn't call a Russian web page the most unbiased source for information, although I'm more than willing to say the Kalashnikovs are hellaciously good firearms.

some interting stuff
http://www.alpharubicon.com/leo/akseries.htm
some bullet type testing. blah blah. but interesting to look at the grouping for rpk. http://club.guns.ru/eng/barnaul.html
some crpa about different weapon assembly. http://www.robarm.com/RA_vepr_akrpkcomp.htm
the pkm (being only 1.25kg heavier than m249) could be a beeter balanced lmg. effective range 1000m.
http://www.armscontrol.ru/atmtc/Arms_sy ... smarms.htm
a fascinating read with charts. look at ak 101. http://www.pmulcahy.com/assault_rifles/ ... rifles.htm
another list that has american and east weapons. note maximum effective range. no way can bf2 weapons compare. even draw distance is only about 400m. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... ppendl.htm
the point of this all? there are ways to balance the weapons so MEC/CHina have disctinct advantages.
