The U.S.S.Essex,.. marked with a pink writing marker?!

I think the soldier who does that is a little ghey, but that's jsut my opinion..

And I think the carriers should be marked by some kind of bearings, a little cirkle with the time of the last bearing next to it, with a pencil! (important! if there's a bearing or a note on a map, you should use pencil, cause you can )

It looks a little unprofessional (when someone uses a stift-marker especially when it's pink!)

Coz' in real life, a ship is not a static.. they move, so they will be marked with a cirkle, in theoretic-thinking, it can move in every direction on the water.. If you want to mark another ship than yours, you will make a cirkle or an arrow large of this with the speed that he has done before this has taken off.. (with a lot of math which you will learn when you study for maritime officer :( )

When it's your own ship, you will set just a dot.

I will make an example;

Image

and the water,.. it's all the same depth now..

Can you also make it sea-mappishlike ?

Image

Looks more and more realylistic than..

You guys made some good work, but it can be even better.

Purple actually. It is a standard pen color for writing on maps because it is easy to see as the color is never(?) part of the map itself. The brush could be a bit nicer though.

This is not a naval map and as such naval conventions are not required. The amphibious assault ship is just sketched in for reference.
and the water,.. it's all the same depth now..
Mappers (the guys who made the PR maps) rarely pay any mind to the portions of land under water and they generally look pretty haphazard and wrong. I could spend time making fake contours under water, but that takes time. Feel free to download the .PNG in question and try some stuff on it though, the maps are not compressed (as you 56kers might have noticed :) )

Yeah, maps used by troops on the ground aren't naval charts; no need for depths or other symbiology to do with shipping etc.

What I will quickly say (minor point) - the "pipeline" on Fool's Road is actually a conveyor belt. Doesn't matter especially, just being anal :D

I do like 'em tho.

ok,.. well.

Maybe a cirkle around the area where the carrier is to mark it than?

A square is way too acurate when you just see a carrier..

I regret to inform you that there is a serious problem. The new MD5Checksum check that the devs have added to fight the shaders bypassing is now kicking sometimes because of the custom maps. If you encounter this problem please post here with the map in question that shows up on the kick notice.

I absolutely love these new maps. The one with the terrain lines super imposed over the currently existing satellite maps is very helpful. The traditional terrain maps (the non-satellite) would be excellent reference maps outside the game as well as the one with the CP radius. However in game I would stick to the satellite map with the terrain contour lines overlay.

Homer showed me this, and I had to try and replicate the OS map styles i remember so well from geography :D

Here is about half of my attempt, before I was tasked with another job to do :(

Just shows what can be done though!

Having marked zones is a nice idea, I havn't thought about that before.

Having the grid and names on the map rather than the overlay was my hope and hey, now it's dev approved I guess. :)

Few issues, though I know you said it was not done.
-Map is primarily bamboo with coniferous along the river.
-Weird breaks in the zone areas

-A question(More for the modders than the mappers); would it be possible to add numbers to the side(Like the grid, only a lot more) and make it so that when you move the mouse marker onto the CAPS LOCK map a horizontal and vertical line follows the mouse marker? The vanilla grid is way too big to be of any use(Especially on the bigger maps) and this could really be helpful.

I hope those maps will be all availible soon !
I already use a printed version of the Al basrah map with a scale and the ingame grid coordinates to command my squad , thats very usefull ! I cant wait to have my own map book with a plastic sheet over them so i can write stuff on it and erase it for the next round 8-)

I have not done any more than the ones in this topic. I was hoping, and still do, that more people will try and help with the project. All the information to get it done is in this topic, it just takes time to do each map. Time I don't have at the moment, hell, I haven't even played PR in a month.

Nub question: why do modern military units use maps like this when it must be just as easy to just print a satellite picture of the area?

Like the idea, though. Adds a lot to the realistic atmosphere.

BEcaus eI believe its easier to spot certain things in teh heat of battle. it also gives a good pint point how the terrain is with height and so on.

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

Normal maps do use marks which you can easily reconize as; a road, a church, a tower, a villa, radar tower..

Normal maps do use colours which you can easily identifie as; a field, a lake, a forest,..

Normal maps shows heightlines, so you can plan a route etc..

At satelite photo's it's hard to see roads, exclusive houses, the difference between grass fields or forests.. etc..

Maybe you can have a high detailed satelite photo, but you will not have them that much.

normal maps show you what you need to know, satelite photos can give you an image of what you can expect.
