Re: Player stats - PR rankings
Why would we need stats? Knowing how many kills, deaths and score somebody has obtained tell me nothing about somebody being a good or a bad player. I can keep track of good and bad players with a pen, pilots and squadleaders mostly.
But I would like to hear feedback about teams and squads actions after match. The loading screens could show numbers casulties and the number of lost assets, TKs and civilians shot. But is it possible?

.blend wrote:Very good idea, but maybe we could add stats for training servers. So if the guy trained flying for a while on a certified server, he'd be able to fly planes. As a second instance there could be actual human testers, so you could become a certified pilot, which would rank higher than just the training one.
On a second thought: We could split the servers into certified and noobie servers. Noobie Servers are just like the ones we have now, where everyone can get every kit/vehicle.
Only the certified players could join the certified servers.
You'd get certification for certain kits and vehicles from two factors:
1. Your stats, meaning the time uve spent playing with a certain kit and effective u were with it(teamplay points should factor in bigtime)
2. Aforementioned license testing by human testers.
Sure, stats could always be faked more or less, but we'd still have to deal with way less smacktards or just ppl that dont know any better than we have to now.
In the tournaments you can award medals and promotions.

Re: Player stats - PR rankings
There is no need for stats in PR. No matter how good a stat tracking system is, it cannot record someone's ability to use realistic and effective tactics along with one's ability to effectively lead a squad or team. You cannot record someone using suppressive fire (while ordering a flanking manuvere etc.) just as you can't record someone using cover to get a tank hull down.
Also, having to train to get an asset would be a waste of time imo, particulary when we already have a good countermeasure: good admins.
All stats do is breed elitism and a focus on getting a specific rank or set of numbers to "prove skill" rather than playing for teamwork and the inherent fun that it provides.

First of all, no stats should count unless you are in a squad. Lonewolves should get zero points for anything they do, period. Second, stats should center around actions such as capturing flags, reviving people, giving ammo to people who need it, surviving, destroying heavy assets, transporting squads in helicopters, building and destroying firebases, destroying and defending caches in insurgency, placing and preserving your squad's rally point (something like 2 points for every minute that it is not overrun). Kills should count, but for minimal point value, thus keeping the game from turning into a rush to see who can mow down the most enemies.

The more effective you were while sitting in a tank, the more likely it is that you've been using hull/turret downs, etc. Same goes for suppressive fire.joethepro36 wrote:There is no need for stats in PR. I see less and less action on the side of admins, which is understandable, coz it does get annoying.

Personally, I don't play games for my stats. I play them to just get away and have fun.

Re: Player stats - PR rankings
I think there should be PR stats, but not PR ranks, I would like to know things like my overall accuracy, time as squadleader etc.
Time played on map, which maps I lose etc neat tidbits that vBF2 had that we could have for PR, the problem is ABR is a hassle and doesn't reflect PR stats...

This. Only thing that would be good to see is that how much you've played. All those k/d ratios and so on suck, let's keep point hunting in vBF2.GoreZiad wrote:Yeah. Let vbf2 have their point hunters.

While stats are a nice way of finding out at what/on what map you suck, i see their main potential in using them to filter ppl. Yes, having played longer doesnt automatically mean youre a better Teamplayer, but 1 hour of gameplay, 10 hours of gameplay and 1000 hours of gameplay do make a difference. The same goes for sitting 2 minutes in a tank, 30 minutes in a tank, or 10 hours in a tank.

A stat system will kill PR. All these excuses I've read are ridiculous. Quality players are easy to spot and you don't need a rank to spot them. If you want stats please get your *** back to vanilla BF2... they have them there.

The stats there are bad, because one can openly brag about them. In PR, ranks should be less obvious, more geared toward keeping equally skilled players together and smacktards out.ghettostankk wrote:A stat system will kill PR. Re: Player stats - PR rankings
The PR team has no priority of including stats into PR in the short term or long term.
This decision is subject to change, so feel free to discuss it but at this time, stats are not a priority.

I play PR to get away from stats also. anyway why would you need stats if your a regular you know who i skilled and who is not anyway. If stats where brought it it would encorage team staking or squad staking because not everone is as helpfull as others and dont want to squad with new ppl. By having ranks if your knew u may as well have a flashing neon light over your head saying IM A NOOB STAY AWAY.

From my humble opinion, The best statistics is your name. Be a good player And the whole world will know you without need to have range.

Re: Player stats - PR rankings
I'll have to remember that at the next "fan day" at the local sports club. tell those selfish athletes that it's not all about their individual effort or achievement, it's about the team, the team name and having fun. b.t.w if any of you have old ball-cards and now feel like you no longer need/deserve them, I'll be happy to take them off your hands!
I am not urging the dev's to spend anymore time on stats than they feel inclined to do so, only making a reference to other areas where statistics are kept and for good reason.
I for one like to know how well i have done and been doing. it's a mark of self-improvement, being able to refer to some mark and see that I have improved (or gotten worse) in some area. It's just data. Too much data is never a bad thing...

Plus on top of that, I know when I see names playing online I will not play with. And others I will join a server for.Tte.oteo wrote:From my humble opinion, The best statistics is your name. Be a good player
Plus we have stats, check at the end of the level.

Stats would be good for Clans, that are after good players. Where you can see how many hours one players has as SL, Commander, Armor, Aviator...
