Cause 7,62x39 is classic caliber for middle eastern armed forces.
My choice, also. Most of the AK users in the ME never made the 5.45mm switch since they were already producing their own 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and AK-47/AKM variants. It didn't make logistical sense for them to make the switch, and it still doesn't. Also, the AK-103 does not use any wooden furniture; timber is not an abundant resource in the ME, and though the average humidity is lower there, heat is still not very kind to wood from a maintenance perspective, especially when it comes to firearms maintenance. License producing AK-103s would be easy to transition to for manufacturers, operators and maintainers as well as offering some improvement over the original.

The sa80 PDW I think

My personal choice for PDW, I think its based off the m16. Looks like the rifle equalivant of a sawn off shotgun

That's a hand cannon, not a PDW!

don't involve any russian main weapons for the mec. i'm still hoping for a russian faction :(

late model steyr aug with ironsisght/picatinny and custom scope if they've moved to 5.56 ammo (longer barrel of course).
Image
in use in:
morocco
oman
pakistan
saudi arabia
tunisia
etc

or sig 556, this in 7.62x51 (like the g3). should of course have different optics than in the picture for rifleman.

I would like to see the Ak-103 used by the MEC faction. It has the same 7.62 x 39mm round as the AK-47, with the polyurethane furniture seen in the newer AK models. A good balance I think.

I agree with Chiz. This is a totally irrational statement. What you want is the stopping power/realiability of an AK47 and a M16's muzzle velocity/accuracy.

What you described would be a gun that takes forever to clean, jams a fair amount, does poor damage and has fair accuracy.

If I had to pick a replacement, I'd be AK-103. But I'm glad I don't have to as a scoped g3 is so cool. In PR, G3 is used in deserts only, where the recoil is not as important as weapon damage and accuracy. And in bunkers, I find the full auto to be more useful than burst mode. Too bad the ironsights obstruct the surroundings of the target so much.. that's the only complain I have.

Well ya. I could careless. I was just explaining in a sarcastic obvious hypothetical way. (As per the way the thread ask.)

Seriously, which rift is bigger:
Arab/Persian or mid-east/USA considering we are dealing with a united mid-east, not isolated countries to pick off one by one?

Would Iran take advantage of a conflict between the US and a different ME country to hurt the US or to hurt another ME country? Now consider the situation if those other ME countries have already formed a military coalition, which would Iran back?
Oo ya wolin wolin we tayil.

Thanks Jonny. I would think Iran would probably be the driving force behind a MEC if there ever was one.

Only one of many wars between the British and French lasted almost a century, and look at them now!

My point is that there is no story. It's called the Middle Eastern Coalition for a reason: it represents a regional alliance against NATO. Implying any opposition between its members is only bringing the concept where it was not designed to go.

Anyway, I've thought it through, and the KH2002 would just be too specific. The MEC would have billions of dollars to spend on an emergency military force, and they'd probably choose a weapon that allows them to save money on new stockpiles of ammunition - that weapon being the AK-103. However, there's probably lots of 5.56 floating around the region, so the AK-101 or the KH-2002 could be used alongside the AK-103 and G3.

Bad comparison. Were talking about something that has been going on for millenia.

Razick, let's keep the Moderators from killing this topic in cold blood - can we discuss the weapons?

I know that practically everyone in the middle easy hates each other. I'm just saying if there was a MEC (if there really was it would last 5 sec.s and then there would be a giant dispute as to if Sunnis/Shiates, Arabs/Persians, etc. should be in charge and everyone would end up killing each other), that Iran is one of the few states in the region with the man-power/technology to have a real army that could try to mobilize a coalition against Allied forces.

Yeah just realised i forgot to put my input. Here goes.

I think I would rather go for Johnny's idea for a reserve corps for the MEC with lesser weapons and equipment and leave the MEC with their higher caliber weapons and battle rifles. Hook the reserve up with lots of 7.62x39mm weapons as they are VERY abundant and surplus Soviet equipment.
