I would make the tape go around at least twice if I was you.

Also for the texture, can't you just take a picture of duct-tape and use it as the texture ? It's not like duct-tape is hard to find.

Yeah I was actually thinking of doing that, how should I set the duct tape up if I do that? Should the room be partially lit, fully lit or what?
I'll probably redo the tape and have two revolutions that cross to make a sort of "X" on the keypad. However I've got a fair amount that I should be doing this weekend that I totally blew off today. Maybe, maybe not.

Thats like saying why make a new tank when we have a perfectly good APC. Its a new class of weapons man. Like a pick up kit i would imagine.

It's way too small for the damage it does. Like two home made pipe bombs ductaped together. IMHO the current model is only suitable for an anti-infantry weapon, not against vehicles.

In rl the ied will be burried in the ground right? Mabye you can make a bomb that looks just like that with the shell just visible? With texture that looks like the desert so its well camoflaged.

Wait, no one has told me how to fix the deal with the model being all glossy. Someone help.
Also, in the early parts of the Coalition Insurgency IEDs similar to mine would be buried, but due to increasing pressure on Insurgents from coalition forces, Insurgents will often just throw the IED in a bush or drainage pipe under a road.
Also, this is not a replacement for anything. Iron is correct, I am hoping to have it in a sort of beefed up Ambusher pickup kit.
Also, I've heard the term "specular map" before, but what is it and how do I make one?

Spec maps control the shininess/glossiness. For BF2, have the spec map as the alpha channel of your colour map. Black areas denote places where there's no shine, and white areas have total shine. What most people do is copy the colour map to the spec map, and adjust the black/white/grey depending on what kind of material they want to achieve.

Ah, thank you. That's why the shell is shiny. I began skinning with the Call of Duty series where the alpha texture is used to control what is visible versus invisible.

What do you think should be glossy. The phone screen probably, what else?

Well.. no part of the IED needs to be super shiny, I mean its half buried under dirt and there's dust constantly blowing around the place. If anywhere the lighter areas on your spec map should be (like you said) the phone's screen and the tape.

Yept. I just made the spec map up. The lightest color I have on it is 120,120,120 (RGB) and that's on the phone screen and buttons. The duct tape is 100,100,100. The shell itself ranges from 20,20,20 to 30,30,30 depending on dirt, rust, etc.

Yeah, I cannot integrate the dev's models without their permission, and I cannot get permission unless I'm part of an officially recognized community mod. So, basically, I can't borrow stuff from their models.

I'm also trying to rotation and lower the model in Max9 so that the IED is 1/2 underground, but the tip with the explosives is still visible. Updates will continue.

Looks much better with the new tape. Next thing to do is to make the bottom look more natural. I.E not so sharp and perfect.

You got it cheesy, but can you also actually find Waldo himself? (He's there)
I'll send you the files soon chuc. I've actually got it now that you don't see the bottom when you put it down because of how the IED is buried.
So, on my list of things to do, which I've taped to the side of my monitor, I have to move around the duct tape because the duct tape models/polygons are too close to each other and the shell so that if you look at the IED from the wrong angle (most angles) you see duct tape sticking through other duct tape or hidden below the shell. Also, I plan to figure out whatever code bit makes it so you must be prone to place the weapon (I'll reference trip wire).
Thanks guys. By the way chuc, you want just the import files right? As in just the stuff the IED needs to run in game - model, textures, tweak, con and an effect. You don't want the model itself do you? (I don't mind giving it do you, just wondering so I pack it up right)
