Ya its the new weapon that will soon be Israel's main rifle. They are not actively using it right now though...

funny you should mention that, because almost all the videos ive seen of the recent israeli operation in gaza, i was surprised how many of the soldiers i saw using tavors. i definitly think they are starting to see some use. i dont think they are super widespread yet as i still saw lots of guys with m4s, but it takes time to implement a new rifle in an army.

we use them widely now

you obviously have not seen them recently. The tavor is pretty new so that is why you may not have seen it before. They used to use m4/m16

There's current serving Israelis posting in this thread, take what they say as the truth

hopefully im not derailing this thread too much, but to any of you guys in the IDF, what do you think of the tavors?

At the moment, Tavor is used by the Givati brigade.

Only selected units are using the Tavor currently. It will be in service with most IDF units in late 2009-2010

Tavor is a nice weapon but it takes time getting used to it from a M16 where most of the weight is in the center/front, using Tavor you feel the weight in the back hence you can move the weapon far faster but its slightly harder to be pin-point aim with it..I guess its just muscle reflex and getting used to it.

Accuracy is +- like M16, it is however far more reliable and comes standard with MARS sight.
I only had like 5 shots with the Tavor, I'm still using M16 myself.
Currently its issued to new recruits from Givati and Golani brigade, Kfir are most likely the next ones to get Tavor.

Marksman is TAR21 with ACOG, Grenadier is issued - M203.
