They speak Arabic therefore they are very likely to be Arabs. Notice they never say any religious phrases.

If your staying true to BF2 then its the Arabs - Afganistan, Pakistan, Iraq etc. I dout the Iranians are involved in the whole thing cause they're not Arabs, they are Ayryan or something (hence all the wars between them and iraq). It almost certainly wouldnt be Israil (if you are refering to them when you say Jews) because all the arabs hate them with passion. In first gulf war Sadam tried to get Israil involved so that the Arabs wouldn't be involved in desert storm/shield.

Afghanistan and Pakistan are not Arabs at all... Pakistanis speak Urdu, and half of Afghanistan speaks Pashtu, which is related to Farsi. The Afghans themselves are ethnically related to Iranians. Sorry, but I really get ticked off when people call anyone east of Iraq Arabs.

I think the MEC is just Arabs, and probably would be considering there are talks of making an Iran faction. But how awesome would it be if there was a Middle Eastern Coalition consisting of all the nations from Egypt and Israel to Iran. Totally impossible, but totally awesome.

i think the persians and arabs put up with their differences to fight the westerners. whether they were brought together by mutual hate or force, i havent decided which would sound better. they are a COALITION though, so probably both arabs and persians.

Exactly, I just can't understand why Iran and the Arab world shouldn't be able to get over their differences.

After all, the European countries hated each others, too, and today we're all happy together in our AHEC (Alliance of Happy Euro Countries).

Jokes aside the more countries (in the MEC) the more different (model) assets people can make.Or like the others suggested add more factions.

MEC was created by EA games to capitalize on the terrorist scare of the post-911 world. Presumably this ''Coalition'' seems to worship some military officer in a green uniform, who has a striking resemblance to Joseph Stalin. I guess we have some real old men at E.A., because the Chinese in vanilla had an overabundance of red in their uniform (omg are they communists?) with large red stars on their forehead which exclaimed "shoot me".

I noticed that we also have large painting of Mao in the game. Obvious EA just thought "Slap in the Communist and Cult Idol references and we got ourselves a bad guy!"





To be honest I would like to see the Middle East Coalition phased out and removed from Project Reality. I don't like the idea of fictional enemies. Although this will no doubt be a long and tedious process. I'll like to see the MEC's assets given to the Iraqi Insurgency and Hamas, and into an Iranian Army, Iraqi Security Forces and an Egyptian/Arabia faction.

Realistically Israel wouldn't ally it's self with arab nations in that way?. They wouldn't, nor would many other Arab nations ally with each other, not in a conventional way. It's pure fiction. BUT if you were to list a few nations that could in some fantasy scenario ally with each other you'd get a list a little something like this maybe?

Jordan
Syria
Libya
Lebanon

-then groups

Hezbollah
Hamas

But to me, the fact that India, Turkey and Pakistan have very large armed forces would probably thwart any alliance in the middle east of that scale anyway.

Actually, it was created because of the Iraq War (seriously, MEC have nothing to do with terrorists). Modern warfare in the middle East was the big thing, but I guess DICE wanted an Arab/Middle Eastern faction that could be balanced with the USA, instead of a weak Iraq that no one would like to play as.

Before the Ayatollah of Iran, the Shah of Iran upgraded and modernized the military. They had a massive army and 4th largest in the world. This was back in mid 1970's until the shah was thrown out by the Ayatollah. I still think the Iranians should be the mec in my opinion. But in any cases they havent been to a major war since the 1980's.

On another note, we can do Israel, they sound like an intresting army fighting insurgents. All the Arab nations has been to war with them since they acquired that land. If we do classify the mec as arabs, then there will be no doubt in my mind to include the Israelis.

OK, did we have a single Persian or Arab in this thread say something like: OMG, I hate it that my country is not in-game, I don't want to be lumped into one fictional faction (factional fiction ?). Where are Iran, Syria, you name it faction?

It's all about coalition fanboys that don't want to fight a Faction that has the potential to be up to par with Western armies using the argument it is not realistic.

Removing MEC will be the worst thing that could happen to PR.
Because what I anticipate, once MEC gets replaced by national Factions, is that people will cry for realism, because that country has crappy equipment and this country would be owned by the USMC and the Brits would steamroller a third one, which will ultimately lead to a nerf-fest of the non-Western factions.

If you must, rename it to get rid of the BF2 name, but keep the concept.

The 'official' politics of China is still very much Communist after the Maoist ideology.
Depending on your point of view, it does not neccessarily make anyone bad!

Think DICE went for MEC because it is such an obvious stereotype in the US at least, I know its a generalisation but most US audience will say you know, Middle east is where enemies are, China are pretty evil also. Its actually pretty cool having a conventional opfor team.
