Yeeha Luke :D Finally some :D But the myth is true, joystick fliers are better when they can fly competently with it :D

I could never fly keyboard only, i would crash within minutes :D

Agreed, when you are good with a joystick, the movements are about instinctual. I dont even really think about what Im doing when I fly. I just kinda do it. Its like muscle memory

I also think keyboards are kinda unrealistic

Both keyboard, and i still own 8-)
PR aircraft and helo with joystick feels weird..
on real flight simulators it seems more natural

Just like FSX for me, flying helicopters is COMPLETELY instinctual with the joystick for me. I am one with the Huey :D I can fly ALT 2 off the waters edge and scare the **** out of my passengers and fly through light poles and scrape roads with my skids all without going higher than a first story building. On Jabal, there was 2 APC at EAST BEACH and i had to make a drop just north of that, so i flew high and fast and they're gun turrets couldnt turn fast enough, i droped and then flew Right over them just to taunt them :D I also like hovering above apc because they can't get me :D

Of course I still use the joystick but for jets only!

I have the same joystick and i cant fly helis with it either. It seems very difficult even to hold it steady. Is there something wrong with the settings? Because it's nothing like what you are telling about flying with joysticks. It's even worse than keyboard.

Though flying planes is flawless, a great improvement.

I use the joystick for more instinctive and decisive movements, and the mouse for precision/keeping steady (mainly helicopters). Joystick throttle control is too awkward in PR.

Dear all posters-

THANKYOU! for your contribution-

General consensus points towards joystick jet, mouse helicopter. Exceptions for people like me who use joystick for all.

again, thankyou for your thoughts

UPDATE:

Got a Logitech Flight System g490 :

<object width="853" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vHHeYT8hOeI&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vHHeYT8hOeI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="853" height="505"></embed></object>[/youtube]

with forcefeedback,

pedals and throttle.

Had a few problems setting it up, finally got it all working, execpt force feedback seeing bf2 is pretty old it doesnt have support for it :

Only problem is, for the pedals to work,, they have to emulate D and A buttons so its either full left or full right...

which can be problematic when trying to manouver a chopper or a jet on the runway.

Another problem is theres no real spring in the stick, and without the FFB its pretty limp which makes it hard to fly.

Its a great stick, works amazingly witht FSX and LOMAC IL2- but not so with BF2 :(

Wow, I just bought a Saitek x52 and I'm jealous of that setup!

How much was it?

Image

The Saitek x52 is great, my only complaint would be that the spring is just a little too weak, and there is not enough resistance. But once you get used to it, it's pretty nice.

The Multi Function Display Screen is pretty useful too.

It only cost 100$ at bestbuy, IDK if they have those in the rest of the world, but whatever.

I need to buy pedals now for the simulator. :-(

Wow, nice setup!! I was seriously looking at getting the x52, i love the LEDs and the Fighter plane look!! But i had heard reviews of the spring being too soft etc, and i previously owned a saitek joystick similar, so i decided not to go for it and ened up geting a 4x more expensive joystick!! ... i dont know wether its better or worse.. it was around AU$400 -- maybe US$360 ?

But then again, it is very well built, heavy! and has precision instruments and force feedback, but its a very new product so theres still some software issues that need ironing out.

Hey, it was fun playing on that training server with you before :D !! I ended up geting banned last night - some weird TK ? anyway it was only temp like yours :D

Cya later.
