Do you know if your .NET has installed correctly ?
I dont know, I have the following installed:

.Net framework 2.0 service pack 2
.Net framework 3.0 service pack 2
.Net framework 3.5 service pack 1

And 0.9 did work before, but returned to desktop after playing one map and loading the next. Got tired of it and reinstalled everything and now it doesn't work anymore.

Ok ... what I think has happened is that in your uninstalling (did you uninstall BF2 as well ? ), all the entries in your registry were not cleaned out.

This is very common in uninstalling programs ... for some reason manufacturers like to leave traces that their program was installed upon your machine ... not entirely sure why, but its not for your benefit thats for sure. These left over fragments eventually over time slow down the boot in and loading times of your OS. And just generally slow everything down. Which is why you have these Registry Cleaners (I personally prefer to do it by hand).

So anyway ... what has maybe happened is that BF2 is now installed into a different location, or PR has ... and their are left over registry entries pointing to somewhere else ... and its all getting confused.

So ... what to do is this ... uninstall PR and then uninstal BF2 .... then go into regedit (just type that in the run box in the start menu) and look for these keys and remove them (your entries might be a little different so look around)...

Code: Select all

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Black Sand Studios\Project Reality
Then reboot your machine and reinstall from fresh.

This should sort the problem IF it was a result of corruption through installing.

Usually poeple forget to patch with 1.41 before 1.5. Note that BF2 Patch 1.5 is only incremental and requires 1.41 to be installed first.

Ok, so I am trying to play PR on a completely fresh install....

I install BF2, then patch to 1.41. Restart my computer.

Install 1.5 then restart.

Install PR .9 part 1 then part 2.

When I try to launch the game from the desktop icon, the PR screen pops up then it says "PR.exe has stopped working"

I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything. I have tried launching PR from inside the EA GAMES/mods/pr folder. Same result.

I can play BF2 fine.

I've read most of this sticky but haven't been able to find much help.

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Same here, ironically I've just removed the dust from my BF2 DVD case and reinstalled it to give Project Reality a try but no such luck.

For reference here are system specs:
O/S: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit
CPU: Intel Pentium DUAL CPU T2330 @ 1.60Ghz 1.60 Ghz
RAM: 4,00 Gb
VGA: Nividia GeForce 8400M GS

Help me out here please

Try to start regular BF2 and retrieve or create your profile(s) before starting PR.

I'm running into the same problem :(

BF2 Plays fine, just PR gives me that stupid "PR.EXE has Stopped Working" pop-up when I double click the icon...

My System...

Vista Home Premium (64-Bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400
4GB Ram
NVidia G-Force 9600M GT

In that case, it is likely that your registry installation for BF2 is corrupt. Do a search on this forum for 'registry' 'BF2' 'pr.exe'. It should bring up a few results as I have discussed this several times.

Yea I have the same problem guys. I am running PR on Win 7 and it stops working every time. I can run BF2 no problem.

Edit: I've got it to work by launching it through Special Forces > Community > Custom Game

Hi Guys,

I'm not sure if this will solve your problem, but I was having the same issues (Win 7 64 bit) and it solved mine.

Right click on the desktop shortcut, click properties, then 'Compatibility' and check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator'

Fixed my problems right away. Good luck!
