Hi
I'd just like to add my woes to this thread. I have played PR on this computer back since it was PRMM 0.3 or something and never had a blue screen of death. But today I finally installed the 0.86 patch and the new .NET framework and after 5 minutes of playing, straight to BSOD.
My specs:
OS: XP Pro (5.1, Build 2600) SP3
Main board: P5W DH Deluxe
BIOS: ASUS Ver: 08.00.12
Processor: Intel Core2 6600 @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Page File: 554MB used, 3387MB available
DirectX: 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512Mb
Driver Version: 6.14.0011.8120
Resolution: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Sound card: Creative SB Audigy 2 EAX
BSOD codes:
BCCode : 1000008e
BCP1 : C0000005
BCP2 : 804F2990
BCP3 : B57B1A4A
BCP4 : 00000000
OSVer : 5_1_2600
SP : 3_0
Product : 256_1
The installation went smoothly (including .NET) and yes I rebooted after the installation.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

that makes 4 maybe even 5 of us now.....
I seem to have stopped the BSOD's but its in an unacceptable way. Basically the only way to stop it is to disable your creative sound card and go with O so awsome Onboard sound.... however i dont actually see this as fixing the problem cause one of the best parts of this game is the sound..... so if you have to play try that however its not really a great fix since it pretty much ruins the game. I havent fully confirmed this to work, I played with it disabled for a few days and didnt get the BSOD so atleast try it, but I have so many other problems playing this that ive given up for now.

I had loads of problems with BSODs and just shut downs when I had and Audigy sound card. When I changed to a creative X-Fi they went away.
For the record folks ... BSODs and Faults in non paged software are not caused by application software, they are caused by driver and other low level conflicts ... particularly IRQ conflicts.
Here are some of the main causes of a BSOD
❍ Software or device drivers may have a problem.
❍ A hardware device is malfunctioning , or was removed while
Windows was running, or does not fully support Windows. On older
machines, outdated BIOS information can also cause errors.
❍ Hardware or hard disk errors during installation of Windows.
❍ Corrupted startup files , hardware and driver software during
Windows startup can also be the cause. This type of error
will always require troubleshooting before Windows can start
up normally.
❍ Intermittent errors that appear randomly. These can be caused
by an overheating processor, a defective memory system, a dying or
dead hard disk , or faulty software and device drivers.
Bsod Error & It's Causes
IN the case of page faults in a non paged error this is what you should be looking at as a solution to the problem
Stop Code: STOP 0x00000050
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Code Meaning : Caused when requested data is not found in memory;
the system checks the page file, but the missing data is
I dentified as unable to be written to the page file
Recommended Resolution: Remove any newly-added hardware or
run diagnostic software supplied by the manufacturer to check if
the component has failed. Install updated device drivers or roll
back to a previous driver.
Wikipedia has this to say ....
The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, BSoD, bluescreen, or Blue Screen of Doom) is a colloquialism used for the error screen displayed by some operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error which can cause the system to shut down to prevent damage.
Bluescreens on NT-based Windows systems are usually caused by poorly-written device drivers or malfunctioning hardware. In the Win9x era, incompatible DLLs or bugs in the kernel of the operating system could also cause bluescreens. They can also be caused by physical faults such as faulty memory, power supplies, overheating of computer components, or hardware running beyond its specification limits.

I can confirm, it's a Creative X-FI driver problem on Vista.
My System:
Intel E8200
Nvidia 8800GT
Creative X-FI Fatal1ty Champion
4 Gb Ram
Drivers are the latest.
Last time it BSODed I remember, it was loading a map and I was talking on teamspeak.
Most of the people in this thread have a creative soundcard which I am sure, is causing this Problem, so i would say change the Topic.
Maybe we should contact the Creative support and who knows, maybe they will fix it soon in a new driver?! let's hope so.

Good luck with that. Now, I am still using the old drivers from before this new set, think they are 2.18 iirc, no problems here.
Try a clean install of drivers with the old version, but the main problem with creative drivers is people dont update them properly.

Right, it seems like I have solved my problem. I had already tried to go back to older drivers but that didnt work so I went back to an even older driver. At the moment Im running a driver on which they (nvidia) still hadnt added Ion to the drivername (no idea what Ion is) and that seems to be working. Ive played for about 1,5 hour of PR and have been suppressed, dodged nades, had an APC fire near me and no flickering or BSOD's occured. Either one of those things would have caused it for sure so I'm very happy.

Hi Twisted, I completely understand what your saying here, but it doesn't change the fact that my BSOD's started happening with .86 - my system never blue screened once before using .856 or playing bf2142 or any other game, all using the same sound card, driver/hardware and memory etc.
So while the fault may be the creative driver - it's being led down the path by .86 in a way that .856 (or any other game) ever did.

Since installing .86 I'm really pissed. Only a fraction of a percent actually work as a team. It takes about three games just two assemble a good team. Now game errors? I started playing in .85. The experience was great minus a few bugs. Now I'm getting hella bugs. I had to completely remove and reinstall BF2 & PB just to get all the maps to work. Now that I've got all the maps working (DL'd torrent levels), when I want to leave the game it goes BSOD. This is the only time I've had BSOD with this game. Now with .86, 70% of the time I leave the game, my PC BSOD. Running every error check tool on the planet turns up no errors[Intel Burn Test, Prime95, Orthos, Memtest]. I've only had .86 installed for a week and I think that was my 10th or so BSOD.
With all the team killing going on, I don't know if this game is actually worth it. More people **** around than what actually try and play. Team screws everyone out of resources constantly. And other squad mates do as they please. To keep them from coming back you have to lock your squad which gives no-one else a chance to try and play right. All in all, something has become wrong with the game. Specially since it wants to Blue Screen my PC. Not acceptable and I know it's not my PC. Last night got IBT for 4 hours, PASS. And Prime95 until morning, PASS. So this just says the game is broke! Specially since it only crashes when I'm logging out. That will harm my PC if I let it do it to much. Not about to wreck my machine for someones bad deving. Sorry, but maybe I'll see you in .89. Not trying to stay frustrated at a game that is supposed to be about team work, but is not ending up that way!
Peace for now,

SO, I just played four matches straight through, than I get a glitching in the sky(as I call it), so I ESC out and go back and the glitching is gone. Shortly there after the round ends and it goes to change maps. I decide I'm going to get a byte and drink, maybe look at the white bowl. So I hit ECS to exit resource building, that's when it happened, loop sound(where there was no sound at the time), BSOD! I'm not getting the BSOD in play, between map changes or under stress, only when I go to log out. Here's one thing. When I've got the glitching in the sky and I ESC, It wont crash and the glitch disappears, but one, maybe twice, when it was glitching and I decided to disconnect from the game rather than go back in, no matter how long I'd wait in ESC-Menu the minute I would 'disconnect' it will BSOD. I've even been able to reproduce it, but his is the only time it's happening. I think I'll ditch the hacked creative sound drivers and roll back the VGA drivers pre.86. See what happen then!
I just don't see how this could be a driver issue though, but I'm no DEV, so what do I know!

Your problems sounds the same as mine (glitching sky). I have an EVGA 8600GTS card and it was the nvidia drivers that caused the issue. What is the message on the BSOD? is it also the nv4_disp.dll that crashes?
I tried the same things as you, even more than that (read back earlier posts) and was able to solve it by going back to an older nvidia driver. I went back to geforce release 182 and that works for me, Ive been playing for a few days now without any errors. To be 100% certain I first deleted my card, restarted in safe mode, cleaned the drivers with a driver cleaner tool, installed the older driver and rebooted. Good luck!

Glad you got your problem fixed Nikolai mate
It seems the day of driver support failing for old 8000 series cards from nvidia is finally arriving

Yeah, nv4_disp.dll is what I saw on the BSOD readout. Reading back some post, I noticed maybe you stated something about pre-ION drivers were stoping the 'sky glitch' and/to BSOD. I was going to question what version pre-ION drivers might be and you seem to have found it. I play CSS, BF2 & PR constantly, and some GTA4_MP, so rolling back some drivers shouldn't be a big issue. I'll still be able to rock the 140Fps 4xAA,4xAF. Dynamics off, everything else 'high'.
I guess if I get any issues after this, It might also be he modded X-Fi drivers for my onboard ALC889RLTech audio chip, but I've not seen an error in Events or Alerts that shows any issue with my audio drivers, just the nv_4disp.dll during BSOD and in Events and Alerts!
Thanks for the info, I'll go do that see if it works-
I'll get back to ya with my findings!

It really helps if you run driver sweeper before installing new drivers, just run it in safe mode to be sure you get everything than install your new drivers on a fresh plate so there is minimal errors.
