Does anyone know how Arma 2 surrender works?

ok, im going to lay this out straight. if you kill the player, you cost the enemy team 1 ticket. if you lock him up some place, preferably away from a firebase/hideout, you might inspire the rest of his team to "roleplay" and rescue him. this offers the potentional for you to cost the enemy team many more tickets.
makeing a prison in the main base would be impractical because of the dome of death. making one out of barbed wire as i sugested before would lead him to your firebase, so thats out. extending the spawn would cause an empty server and reducing it would cause abuse.
Conclusion: the "surrender" function works best, and perhaps only in, a mumble server where people are willing to roleplay.

Unless it's a Iraqi insurgent civilian collaborator it's a full magazine of what ever weapon I happen to be using, these are not real people with real lives so trying to apply ethics to it is a moot point.

*scenario 1 i am a taliban and surrender to an american squad, they shoot me wich is a crime against the GC(Geneva Convention)
*scenario 2 they take me into custody and put me in a enclosure where they can guard me and other prisoners easily
if a lot of ppl from the other side surrender their overall strength and combat performance decrease so takin a lot of POWs can be one way to win
when i take prisoners nomatter wich side i ablidge to the rules of the Geneva Convention
shooting a POW should lower locals sympathies and faith in your team and to show that the number of tickets in your team is decreased by some like 5-10 same amount if you cap and keep him but then you get that amount of tickets in bonus for keeping him alive and treating him with the respect of a normal POW (POW Prisoner of War)
that's my idea
scenario#2 -> will u be willing to sit down infront of ur PC for 25 min (maybe the rest of the whole 4 hour long map) just to role play a POW? Theres no guarantee that ANYONE will come for ya. And if there was, there's no guarantee that they'll be successful or rescue u instead of destroying a FOB or capping a flag.
While I love the realism that PR offers, there's a limit that should be put into a
game in order to balance realism and gameplay. And why would u surrender if a) ur team is less one soldier b) it cost ur team more then one ticket to save u c) they have to divert their energy and resources from capping flags/finding caches to saving ur butt. IMHO PR will have to go through some drastic changes if they plan on doing anything with POW's.
If u want to surrender...perhaps the rule should be that u can not pick up ANY kits until u die and respawn or rescued by ur team. AND u get blindfolded (black screen) until ur placed in the prison (so u can't give ur team intel) Maybe then I'll capture u instead of shooting u on the spot. Either way, I would not find it FUN at all to sit infront of my PC and wait for my team to rescue me -
if they plan on doing so. Not only that, but now the maps will last that much longer.

For those willing to surrender and sit on their PC and do absolutely NOTHING for as long as it takes someone to rescue you, I give u KUDOS and much respect. Me? I'd rather die with my squad, respawn (even with a 2 minute respawn time) and get back to work on the battlefield.

I dont get that surrender stuff
it's funny okay, but there's no sense in it for now. maybe that will change in the future.
except as pilot who cant fight back anyway... you can gather intel if the enemy is stupid enough and doesnt shoot you.
I will shoot anyone from the enemy team though, armed or unarmed (except civs).
1 ticket less to worry about or getting shot in the back with a sneaky "regrap-gun" tactic
It is equivalent to knifekills imo. okay it might be "cool" to knife someone to show that he let you get so close, but how often does this fail...
I can remember at least 3 situations where I shot people in the face because they tried to knife me
dont understand? you posted the same pic twice? or I am too stupid to understand an obvious joke?

just make it like insurgency with the civi thing but FOB's count as cashes and the enemy get info about it if they capture an enemy
also enemy would get a reduced spawn and get his points reduced quite a bit so its not a punishment to much if you give up, maybe you don't loose any tickets

not enough incentive to make me give up. In this scenario, I would teamkill the traitor if that means not giving the enemy info about the locations of our FOB. Better to lose a ticket (and reduce my team-points) then losing a spawn point for the rest of my team. The POW selfishly turned his back on his team for a reduced spawn time, that's punishable by death in my eyes!
I still think the best method would be to follow exactly what ur forum name is...

I am a hardcore member, and while I encourage it, we dont have mumble (we do have a server for it).
I play civi a lot. What usually happens is the guy will look at you with your hands up. Then either a) shoot you or b) wait for you to put your hands down and then shoot you.
RT is the only server i know of that uses ONE channel in mumble ... its Alright just really annoying when you want to communicate with your buddies and the enemy is behind a wall , Tosses a nade Boom your gone -_- ...... yea its realistic but .... you cant even whisper soo its Not quite as realistic ... but in the case of taking POWs its prettty good ..
Wonder if its possible to create a 3rd channel sort of thing to communicate to enemys

The battlefield is no place to chat ^^, but yeah I see what you mean but i still prefer the one channel, means you can speak to the enemy and beg for their forgiveness when you surrender xD, and then peg it when you get the chance..

Me and my friend were thinking about the same thing. Perhaps by surrendering you don't lose tickets? Or more realistically it doesn't count as a 'death' and counter doesn't count that death.

Then out of nowhere, I see the awesomeface that is my desktop. I LOL'D so hard I couldn't breathe.
