anyway what are the plans with the torque engine license?
None. We are not using it.

Am I the only one who doesnt actually give a **** about the graphics? As long as it looks as good as BF2 I honestly don't care what it looks like.

Will the boobs in Katarn's avatar be featured in PR 2?

Well, personally I'd love to see PR in full VR with sensory feedback for all 5 senses as well.

What potentially is the max player base that C4 can handle reliably?. Would it be possible to see 128 players on servers. Or is this asking a little much.

even 100 would be good enough for me...maybe even 80

I don't think C4 limitations affect max player count? I could be wrong.

The simple fact of having 100+ players sending and receiving data to and from the server would affect max player count.

It might be able to have 300+ players on at once, but if all those players are running at what feels like 1 fps, it's not going to work.

Looks like a very nice physics engine but.. whats with the textures. Looks like HL1 textures and choppy corners with HL2 physics.

Even if it did, it would be easily changed as the devs have acess to the sourcecode.

Anyway, I found this little presentation that was done last year: Silicon Valley IGDA » Terathon Software, Eric Lengyel

It shows off some of the newer features in the C4 engine.

Its been explained like 5 times already that the quality of models and textures has nothing to do with the engine.

Because high quality textures haven't been made in mass yet.
Look at the screenshots people have posted on the last few pages.

Also, I believe the C4 engine's physics is more advanced, it seems to be able to handle many more objects being manipulated at once, and some other things..

A building someone else imported into the C4 engine:

Even the best engine results in crappy games in the wrong hands.

Because you can't mod BC2? For starters.

Using it as toilet paper at the minute ....

That is a very good presentation, and Erics attention to the architecture of his Engine (as he makes clear regarding the physics), is exactly the reason why we are using it. He has a very good grasp of assembly and compiler optimization and his engine is extremely efficient.

All this is important towards achieving the goal of massive terrains and high player number networking.

Thanks this basically answered what I wanted to know about the engine, it sounds like an excellent choice and hopefully will morph into the game we have all been waiting for since the begining of gaming time.

So when the engine is ready? You guys will start making it?

I would have thought this had been explained already ?

1. We do not make the engine, Eric Lengyel does. Its not totally finished, but its in a good state and by the time we get round to finishing the game , the engine will have been developed much further. We make the game.

2. We have started making the game and have been for the last year. However this is a much more ambitious project than a mod, and the time scale is much longer and at present we have no real idea how long its going to take. We are just doing it as it comes along. However we try to pace our development with the development of the engine, so we work on those things that the engine has in place already.

As this is all already stated in the FAQ regarding PR2 in the stickies in this forum section ... I refer you to there for further information.

Dude I have read the whole thread and think you probably just oughta keep quiet.

If you would stop your jizzing for 10 seconds and read, half of your posts wouldn't be here.
