It is ridiculous if someone judging about military playing video game. If someone really wants to go for a real war he is either MAD or he doesn't have a clue on what the real war is.
Forget about "future weapons" and other discovery ****. I won't be original saying that the War is Hell on the Earth. Watch some documantary chronics from chechen wars and you'll see war as it is.

News flash, Spieler! The military is not exactly millions of raving, insane maniacs. By your argument, nobody should ever want to join a police force - or, for that matter, anything that involves some unpleasant moments. Whether people enjoy combat tours or not, I seriously doubt that most people join the military because they just enjoy being in mortal peril.

I understand that my previous post has some contradictions. Not every man in military wants killing enemy (people) but each military have to be ready for it morally. Although... They say that in modern war it has become easier to kill because there is a great variety of different sights and "killing at a distance" systems. So killing increasingly looks like a computer game and are easier to carry for the soldiers. Morally.
I think I undestood the main ponit of the thread right. What are you doing in Project Reality or other military computer games? You are killing people in different ways. In fact nothing more. How can this influence a decision for you to join the military? Weird question as for me
sorry for my **** english.

That option is in the poll.

The poll assumes that all voters had an opinion about the military before playing games and after playing games.

If | is the games-factor and the letter in front of it is the opinion without playing games and the letter behind it is the opinion after playing games, and A = Interest in military and B = no interest, we have the options:

A|A
B|B
A|B
B|A

already covered in the poll.

Your opinion is covered by A|A or B|B, which is the poll option

I have always wanted to join the military as a career
or
I have never wanted to join the military as a career

Or am I making a mistake here?

Joining the military would be the dumbest choice I would ever make. Thankfully I have set my mind on NOT to join it. I feel sorry for all the poor souls who made the mistake of joining the military.

A straight NO might have been a good option as a answer to the poll!

Jeeze.. its a video game! Does anything else need to be said?

This is not a debate thread, state your opinions do not argue others.

If you want to argue about the morality of being in the military feel free to do so in the off topic section. Any further arguments will result in 6 day vacations from the forum without warning.

Gotta admit... I lol'ed when I read this.

More to the point, I think that my desire to join the military made me less interested in more mainstream shooters like CoD or vBF2 because they just seemed like cartoon nerf wars more than an actual representation of how the military operates. I don't claim to be some sort of military expert, but I'm pretty sure that MBT's cannot be operated entirely by one man.

Well, video games never influenced me to join the military. It was more of my family. I'm a 1st generation Marine, following 4 generations of sailors. Ever since the ripe age of 6, when I first met a US Marine, I knew that's what I wanted to be.

Although, I admit that playing PR gets me bummed sometimes as I joined to be an M1A1 Abrams crewman, and I got stuck as a MV-22 Osprey mechanic.

I've always wanted to join the military and I don't think video games influenced my decision at all since most of them are pretty unrealistic and are far from what actual military life is like.

I've always had an interest in all things military, but I think PR has at the very least led me into checking out the capabilities of other country's armies, different types of equipment, etc.

No. My stance is the same as before: I'll join if WWIII breaks out; otherwise I remain a civilian.

None of the poll answers.

I already have served one year in the military, though that's maybe the reason I play PR so much. The other war arcade games are **** (COD, BC2 etc) and real life experience can change the gaming experience pretty much, especially in a game like PR which is very "realistic".

There's no way in heck I would ever join the military if I wasn't forced to. Besides I'd probably die during the first day of physical training.

Age 28

The other way around for me. Me being in the military influence me to play military oriented video games such as this one. Although playing PR does give me a lot of motivation towards my performance in the military.

Off to the military tomorrow, though its conscription in Norway (12 month of service no int ops if you dont want to). Didnt get a letter so I asked myself and I believe PR may have influenced to atleast be alittle more on taking a year in service.

For now I am atleast stationed to the military police, but they dont take all the recruits and the rest is stationed in other units.
