I agree. When i first started playing, I thought it was really weird to have a "server license" for a mod, but it has worked out great. I don't have to download tons of things for every different server I go into and I get a consistent experience among them as well. I read the PR thread on the BIS forums and I hope the dev team realizes that most of us like the consistency that we have with PR:BF2.

^ That brings up a question, will PR: Arma 2 be installed separately from Arma 2, just like PR: BF2 or do we have to work with it from other sources similar to Six Updater with the Ace mod? Can anyone answer this?

Yeah the DEVs should update the FAQ at the Arma forums. I really want to know the answer to these questions.

I checked out the BIS Forums in the PR thread. Not many ArmA Plaayers are happy because Reality Studios is pretty much forcing Pure PR gameplay. I think licensing works in terms of keeping the quality of the mod. And I can easily just Hamichi host a server for my friends if I Plan to do otherwise. Anyways, UKForce explains that servers will require licensing. His quote:
The server issue, is covered using a server whitelist on our realitymod host, that will cross reference with the client. Meaning if a client attempts to join a non official PR server (ie not on the whitelist), the screen will black out and he will be unable to join.
I'm happy with their decision and I hope the ArmA community sees that this is for the best. As I do agree with others that average ArmA multiplayer is like filled with all these servers like life servers and servers that has like 6-12 mods with little to no teamplay (like PRBF2 anyways). I'm probably unlucky but a LOT of people agrees.

Completely agree on the licensing part. Would hate for this to turn out like ACE, where you need like 5 or more other mods to actually play on any ace server and they're not always the same, its confusing, clusterfucked and just random. Separate install, licensed servers=WIN.

OFFICIAL Response to recent events

Firstly we are sure the PR Community all agree with the decision we have made, and that this is being created for the PR Minded Community.

If you are not aware, PR: ARMA2 is something that is a bit of a shock to the ARMA community, as in a way its a new concept. The way their community works, is by sharing and mixing up all their addons to suit their own style ........ which is fine, and is a very good way for them to do business, however for PR this does not suit our aims:

The current problem with Public ARMA MP, is simply that - too many servers using a number of varied Mods / addons on Public Servers, making the casual gamer become confused.

This is one of the reasons PR: ARMA2 came about to try to eleveate this.

We are trying a concept to see if it works in reviving Public ARMA MP, allowing one place where people know they can enjoy, simple, effective MP Gameplay.

Lets be fair it may totally fail, and not be suited to ARMA at all.

There are 100's of Mods to choose from in the ARMA Community which is great, and this is just one of many. Until we try it NONE of us will ever know if it does improve Public ARMA MP Gameplay or not.

A lot of people can not grasp the concept of PR "Controlling" the Mod, and its reasons. It is not snobbery or elitism - it is purely to ensure PR remains as it was designed, which in turn is what will improve the ARMA Gameplay (The whole point).

To ensure you have good gameplay, like BF2, you have to put in various controls and functions that gently "enforce" players to act in a certain way ........ this is what makes the teamwork in PR actually work, and why non "controlled" mods/servers fail to hold a consistent player base on PUBLIC Servers. (Note I am not talking about locked down Clan / Community / Private servers).

Public servers are our aim, as it is these that are hard to populate consistently.

If PR: ARMA2 can populate and run 4-5 of our official servers consistently we have achieved our aim.

Lets be fair it's all about choices, the more there is the better it is for everyone really - no need for any hostility between communities, and I know some of the ARMA Community fully support PR in its work.

A decision was made yesterday by myself to provide all updates & information on PR: ARMA2 on this site only now, as it is not in PR's interest to cause such hostilities on another communities forum.

The whole team are looking forward to this release, to let you guys BETA test the build, providing us with constructive feedback. (Also so we can all have a few weeks downtime)

-The Project Reality Team

Excellent decision guys. One reason I play Arma SP more than MP is because every server is almost different in terms of gameplay, (different missions or add ons), and i just simpl cannot find a server that everyone is working toghether as a team. There is always few guys just doing tbere own thing and wen joining a server i see no point in these squad leader, medic, AR etc. positions as there aren't being used TOGETHER as everyone is already entirely split apart. I truly think this might change te ArmA community.

Completely agree. They're just not use to this. I hope their opinions change when they try out this mod.

If the mod does successfully even in the ARMA community then maybe you should go back to giving updates on their forums. ??

Fully agree with you guys, as for now Arma is unplayable online without joining a clan. Anytime you try to join a server you need to dl maps, units, tools, whatever else and sometimes even get kicked out because you have a sound mod. And if you join, it's a complete mess. Half the ppl lagging behind, doing random stuff, teamkilling, going all rambo, it's just stupid. This is only for the better, I'm sure you guys will readch your 4-5 server goal.

Everyone here at E-Z is looking forward to PR:ARMA and we will be switching our server solely to PR:ARMA with the intention of helping the invasion of PR into the ARMA world. We host it out of New York City so it will be good pings for everyone we hope. At PR launch it will only be a 32p but I have faith we can get enough backing and interest right away so we can have a reason to bump it to a 64p and hopefully become a popular stop for all PR players.

We know how much work went into this and we really would like to see it catch like wild fire across the ARMA community.

This is true...

In ACE2 a friend o mine started to download all addn needed to play in a server... It was 2 GB of addon to download and it takes fews hours, so this day he can't play. Next day "YEAH I will play!!!" 500mb more of adon to download and a new map :(

This mods have this problem... the servers are to much custom and you need to download new stuff to each server.
AND some one to help you, becose if it is your first time is a little hard to sync the addons.

The ArmA II: PR will not have this problem and is the bigger positive point in ArmA II mods

CSF clan would like to translate the official PR:ARMA manual into Czech language. Do you provide some sort of support for translation teams? If not, is there a way to obtain sources for the manual so that we can build the Czech manual ourselves?

Will the existing BF2/PR license holders have an opportunity to apply for the PR/ARMA II license?

Yes this is possible.

We will put a plan into place after the release for all languages so they can translate it.
