Great server fellas, had some of my most memorable PR moments on it!

i have a question that might seem a bit daft, I was thinking about game servers and who pays for them and why, on any multiplayer game theres always loads of servers whether they're empty or not and i just wondered why some people might pay to host them? am i right in saying they must pay out of their own pocket mainly with help from donations?

thanks

All those empty servers are paid for, by someone!

T&T, for example, take subs from members to cover the £120+ it costs to run a dedicated server each month. Other servers are funded by a single (rich) guy, or from sponsorship. For example, the [ABA] is donated by the hosting company to ABA as they're the official Brit Army clan for PR.

But yes, on the whole - all those empty servers out there cost someone a fortune for very little return.

I like that sentence.

Sometimes it's just a very dedicated guy who loves PR. :D

Oh well :(

Play elsewhere in future, because you're not welcome on [T&T].

I am not going to enter into any further discussion about this, and I strongly suggest you do the same.

Let me guess... It has to do with the fact that NickO plays in the PRT?

I don't think that epoch cares about the PRT.

True, but I'm just asking if that's the case since I've seen admins giving tourney members negative side treatment before.

Utterly wrong. It has to do with the fact that this is the second incident in 2 months where T&T has players from the tournament sparking problems on the server, and both times NickO was involved. There have also been previous incidents of CATA players on T&T that date back further, too.

There is no obligation for any server to put up with players being rude about admin actions from any player - (calling them "BS" and "cnut" is rude).

If you're incorrectly kicked on a server you take it up politely with the server admin or go to the server's own forums to deal with the issue. You don't rejoin the game and spark an argument with the admin and other players. Especially not when the other players on the server are asking you to shut up and get on with playing.

Nor should you start making bogus assertions about the impartiality of PRT admins, the server's admins or claim you were kicked because one of the admins of the server is also a PRT admin.

Nor is the attitude "it's our gameplay" helpful - players who play on a specific server need to respect the rules of the server, like them or not. If you don't like the rules, you play elsewhere. It's that simple, and in this case, T&T decided that the three people involved last night no longer have to make that decision for themselves.

NickO's kick for 3 TKs should have been the end of it, he could have rejoined and carried on playing just fine. Instead, he and two other players started a pointless argument that irritated other players and irrtated the admin.

T&T regularly have players saying that tight, quick admining is what sets the server aside from other popular servers. They don't tolerate fools gladly, but will forgive even deliberate TKs if someone is willing to apologise. NickO & Co decided that kicking up a fuss was the better option, hence the response from T&T.

To make it absolutely clear: I wasn't online at the time, most T&T members (including senior admins) weren't even aware that I administrate over at the PRT, and given NickO's attitude and previous actions on the T&T server I'm not surprised that the senior admins (Epoch owns the T&T server) decided that he wasn't welcome.

will your second server run the same map rotation? Or are you thinking of running a 24/7 map server?

*whispers* korengal, korengal

There'd be little point in an identical rotation... that's all I'm saying. Any more and Epoch will slap me on the wrist ;)
