TG always has awesome stuff going on...I've been TK'd a total of 8 times or so since the 607 beta there. Always good teamwork in several squads.

What does the army/marines use for clearing buildings (as they appear in this game) in reality? When ARE m4a1s issued to units?

I really feel like there should be a kit available that has the m4a1 along with body armor. I will pick SF as USMC in urban environments, especially when assaulting the "construction area" control points, and I am 100% certain that using this fully-automatic weapon gets me through situations that a semi-auto/burst weapon + armor would not cut.

Some other points to consider:
1. Many of the conflicts in game are FICTIONAL and in the near future. This means the weapons currently in service were not field tested against what we're up against in game. Is it too much to extrapolate and say that the military would use m4a1s when going up against full-auto bullpup rifles at close ranges?
2. Fully-automatic recoil is simply easier to manage (at close ranges) than single shot/burst recoil since you only have to make one motion with your mouse. I hate for a meta-issue like this to affect things, but it's there nonetheless.

Remember that a lot of things will be changing in .7. Plenty of CQB teams around the world don't go in with full-auto on because a good 3rnb is nice and deadly. In-game the burst if ****, but the devs have said that the issue is being looked at along with MANY things in the small arms area of the game.

Yeah, hopefully by .7 we'll have fully-deadly burst weapons (not that they're NOT deadly...).

OK... if you say so ;)

They're not. Regular units in the US military don't get full auto weapons. Only SF.

Why? The M16 has the highest ROF in the game for an assault rifle. Body armor and burst is perfectly acceptable for the vast majority of situations. Also, it would be unrealistic to give regular troops unrestricted full auto. If you want that you can go SF or wait for the Canadians.

1. Yes, it is rather. It would require a complete turn around in US doctrine reguarding fully automatic weapons and regular units.

2. Learn. Adapt. Survive. Its a limitation, deal with it.

Well...... The US Army/Marines/Air Force don't use an M4A1. Special Forces and some specialised units do AFAIK. The Army use the M4 (S-3-1) and the USMC use the M16A4 AFAIK.

Ghost1800 wrote:... so... why did the M16A3 go out of production so fast? I'm no military expert (hell, knowing the difference between calibers a weapon fires is as far as my knowledge goes for the most part), but the full auto fire mode sounds appealing... of course sounding appealing and being totally useless in practice seems to be a recurring trend from what I've read in other things.
Generally, Full-Auto is frowned upon in the hands of the average PBI (Poor Bloody Infantry) Grunt :
Ammunition-supply efficiency - No need to give the guy 20 mags for a 3hr patrol.
Accuracy - Can't maintain the 6" grouping at 400 yds on full auto with an M16.
Maintenance of the weapon - No need to dish out new barrels every time the squad returns.

The list goes on, really.

A volley (or a few volleys) of 3-round-burst is efficient enough at suppressing defensive targets, especially when performed by a whole squad with LMG backup. One or two of the squad should be on single-shot (SA) to drop the 'runners' if there are any... any more than that is overkill imho.

Um..Army standard weapon is the M4A1, isnt it?
Marine Corps uses the M16A4
Not sure about the Air Force but I think they are M16 as well.

No, A1 is the full-auto.
M4 is standard issue with burst.

lol, not sure man...I know you are a straight killer so maybe I'm not in the thick as much as you. I'm more of an outside fighter, stick and move...everyone else seems to rush around alot but with the zooms I tend it hang back and play the marksmen whether I have the kit or not...I also get really good hit detection so it works for me. I'm by far not the best guy on the team though, rarely pull a #1. Or maybe I'm the guy TK'ing you :)
