Wait wasn't there a map called Operation Compton? I remember it was Brits vs PLA and PLA was attacking a fortified British trench system with armor support. That was my favorite map, bar none.

Cheers for the clip sabre - Im working on a map and people were saying it reminded them of Steel Thunder - I thought they were talking about a game called Steel Thunder :o ops: ( Ive onl played PR since 0.6 )
Why was it taken out? It looks cool and Helis with forests are the perfect combination!?

like many others, the map just became too vanilla-y and with rapid changes with things like armor, air, and general squads the map just did not play right anymore.

It was too cool for skool. Your right the tanks in heavy forest and helis did work well but generally the map was too small for the new big game dynamics.
It had 2 attack choppers, AAV, about 6 tanks per side and 2 scout helis, the lb with hydras was there.

Basically it had all the cool toys bar planes and the map was not big enough plus the flags were placed close together around the river so it played out even closer, it was kinda similar to OGT. Can you imagine OGT with all that stuff, it was fun but understandably it had to go

If they redid with the kashan 16p kind of take on it, just transport/scout helis then it might work but the flags need spacing out

Newb question (just started PR two-three weeks ago):

Why were these maps removed in the first place? Seems weird to get to the trouble of making a map and then remove it completely...

ZiangShuang Security Camp and Steel Thunder was the best.

ZiangShuang Security Camp; first map i ever played in PR.

First spawn: USMC base. From there i walked north along the road. Some random shootings from the battle on the other side of the river caught my attention, cause i instantly noticed the difference in the sound (tone) of the battle when compared to vanilla BF2.

I passed as burning tank and then just knew that this digital experience would become more giving than i could imagine at that moment.

And that it did end up becoming.

For that alone ZiangShuang Security Camp is on my list.

Steel Thunder is however a great tactical map. Lots of battle-type options available.

AFAIK, they were:
- Modified BF2 maps and the developers want to steer away from BF2 content.
- Not made for PR but were used with permission.
- Considered poor quality.
- Considered no longer appropriate for PR's evolving game play.

Steel Thunder is been re-made for the German Forces Mod for those that weren't already aware, shaping up nicely so far.
