Likewise, I *may* be able to spend some time helping out at some point. I'm not a great animator (and what I have done was years and years ago, and never for BF2), but there's a chance I'll have the time to pick up enough to assist with this fairly basic stuff.

Yeah I'm working on the bolt rifles so they look a bit more natural and realisitic, I beleive its the M40 thats been griding me for a while. Than onto the L115A1 and L98. After that onto the AK47 and its unergonomic fire selector

Yeah, I got a PM from katarn, I appreciate it but I have no idea of what to ask because I have no idea of what is possible to do, I really dont have any experience with animating before except for this one project I did a few years back in school, But that was in 3ds viz and was very VERY basic.

This project sort of spun out of control. It started with me changing the left arm abit on one animation and now theres people asking me to do all kinds of animations...
Ill try to help as much as I can but im no animation "god", far from it.
ye you will have to ask kat more about it, I think what he means is that you basically need to learn how to make animations look more "natural" which will most likely just take practice but you will have to really go though katarn, animation is one area I know very little about :p

I can tell rhino is happy, the developers need animators :D good luck everyone, I really want to see these animations change gameplay up a bit. For example, if reloading takes more time then you need to watch where you reload, etc. Maybe changing up the medic class too, as in not using defibs anymore? Who knows, but once again good luck everyone and I hope we can see this stuff in game!

Yeah, I know what you mean. The animation im working on now will hopefully look more natural now that I've made it 3 seconds longer.
I can also spend abit more time on doing the finer details now that I know whats going into the animation.

also I need more "MA" help, In what direction is the bolt release catch pressed/pushed? Is it up or down?

Down, i normally do it with my thumb, as its quite quick, especially whilst doing a load, just a quick press down with the thumb, **** it, KABANG you on your way!! might just be my personal preference tho

Rhino, on the issue of drill: is this something the community as a whole could look at?

As in, can the MAs provide detailed, step-by-step drill for every weapon we have in-game, or should we be looking at asking members of the forums to step forward if they've used things like the SVD, G3 etc, and provide CP/the team as a whole with detailed, step by step walkthroughs of every action taken to reload each weapon?

I'd let the MA's handle it... too many people on internet forums who "know everything" its bound to just cause more confusion than anything else.

I'd like to see one of the MAs doing a reload drill while wearing a headcam. That would clear up most of the questions on this thread, and provide CP with the perfect reference for his animations. Any armourers bored at work?

As for my own opinion I think the animations at present look a little wooden, but I really couldnt say why! Unhelpful I know, which is why I'd like to see it done for real :)

our MAs know alot about a wide range of weapons, vehicles and general equipment. I would be surprised if they didn't know or couldn't find out about it quickly with detailed info.

Anything that can be done to improve animations is worth the time and effort.

Natural right arm movement is kind of missing with this animation IMO.

1) pop the catch on your ammo pouch
2) Bring the rifle across at 45 degree to body and aiming 45 degrees up into the air. No one has mentioned this so far, you cannot naturally reload the rifle with it pointing straight outwards, not unless you have two elbows in your right arm!
3) Press the magazine release catch (can't remember which side it was on now)
4) pull mag out and slide into pouch
5) pull full mag out
6) visually inspect top and using your thumb make sure the rounds are pushed towards the cap end in the mag and give the spring a push (testing mags workability)
7) insert mag
8 ) hold bottom of mag and push to ensure in fully
9) aim rifle towards enemy and pull down the round knob on the left side of the rifle to release the bolt so it goes forwards and shoves the first round from the mag into the barrel
10) tip rifle to left and check the round went down, bolt went forwards fully (by striking it with the heel of your hand) and hit the dust cover too to ensure locked in fully (throwback to A1 days)
11) good to go (after clipping your mag pouch back up)

Its the bit on the end of the arrow, and it is pressed towards the weapon, in the same direction as the arrow is pointed :)
