I thought this might be useful last time a thread like this came up, but for some reason the community seems to dislike the optional page up and page down stuff which has no real effect on your immediate circumstances, dunno why. That and I kinda imagined it'd be impossible to code at the time.

Probably the best way of doing it though if possible. Think it'd be worthwhile to somehow have it so this request system was only in use if the SL had an officer kit, so it'd be less of a ballache for the dedicated armour/flight squads.

Allright guys here goes, Project reality wants to be as realistic as possible, without destroying teamwork. As far as ive understood it.

And what i think is that teamwork is: People working togheter, as a team.
So a team is a group of people, which should be able to do different tasks, more specialized.

And work is something you use energy to move objects, or solve problems. So teamwork means that a group of people is togheter working on solving problems and moving objects around :)

So how do we implement this idea with teamplay? And reality?

Well, right now there is a problem with people spawing, taking kits, and not being a part of the team. This makes the team slower and also gives you a bad "Teamwork" feeling.

Now what i like is a good "teamwork" feeling, and i think that we could reach that with this idea.

What would be REALLY AWESOME would be that we could get the page up/Down thingy to work, i dont know if we can code it.

Now, if we cant get that to work, then make people request kits from flags, humms etc. And also keep the squad more around the SL, incase he needs a kit, and you really want a kit.

So this idea makes the Squad stick with the Squadleader, which doesnt always happend, when people can request kit, and wonder around aimlessly.

This idea solves alot more problems than what it makes. Even if it does make some, all ive heard so far is that:

if in a given situation, you need a kit, you cant get it, because
A) Sl isnt there
B) You both arent near the rally.

Now it is more realistic to prepare before a problem arises, not at the moment it is there, like if the squad encounters an APC, and the SL hasnt prepared for it, well then the old saying goes like this: If you cant kill it leave it alone, or it will kill you.

Now my point is, this system has alot of potential. It lessens the amount of SL being pissed off. It encourages people to stick with squadleader, it adds to realism. It makes more off a respect and demand to the squadleader.
It adds to Teamwork, and it actually forces teamwork.

When i play PR, i excpect teamplay, not lonewolfing, leeting vanilla battlefield 2. I excpect people to follow orders and be mature, this is PR, the space for teamwork, the place for organized games.

With the system we have now, i have alot of cool games, alot! Seriously, when people follow orders, even if we lose i have a good time. But if the squad breaks down, and noone follows orders, that really depresses me.
I dont want to be depressed, and this system is my painkiller.

Remember always: Teamwork != Dependence.

One thing I will say, you know the amount of things forcing teamwork now, yet people bypass it and we are still asking for more? Does that mean that it is not working?

-What the hell are you talking about? Teamwork has improved drastically with every release so it is working. No one would object if there was a feature where you could decide beforehand what loadout your squad would have, indeed I think people would love that, but you don't have that in BF2 and so a work-around is needed. This is that work-around. The Page Up/Page Down system, if possible, would be best, but other things might work as well.

-The SL must have control over his squad's loadout because he needs to know what his squad is capable of. Pretty much every game I see at least somebody just pick up kits at random regardless of whether the SL informs them not to, and then when you're going on the offense you find that you have to drastically alter your plan or abandon it completely because somebody decided that picking up the Spec Ops or Sniper or HAT kit would be a good idea. Not to mention that these kits are wasted and that access to these kits are denied to the team in places where they could serve greater use.

-People pick up kits because they think they're cool and have no real idea how to use them properly and in effect they just end up running around with them for some time before they take a bullet in the face while another squad with capable individuals and/or a dire need for that kit have to sit around and twiddle their thumbs or slaughtered because of it.

well i am against this for a few reasons
#1 idk why but i always se3em to get stuck with the bullet magnet role of being the medic but i can get out of this by choosing to be light at marksman noob tuber and the like
#2 noob SL's it is VERY annoying when you have a 1st time SL let alone one who now has to issue kits to his squad
#3 it tends to work out better when the guy who is getting the gun knows how to / is good with the weapon he is getting i for one CANNOT stand the brit marksman kit so if i got put in as the marksman our squad would be skrewed

but there is 1 thing i did think of
the SL should be the only one allowed to issue pilot and crewman kits cause i know as a SL trying to lead an inf squad in ramiel nothing pisses me off more than looking at my map thinking "where the hell are those 2" and seeing a green striker flying round the map and have to start yelling at them to get out and form up the same goes for the pilot kit (why the hell are you in the black hawk?)

so yeah thats my opinion if you don't like it don't flame me

#2 noob SL's it is VERY annoying when you have a 1st time SL let alone one who now has to issue kits to his squad
-You're a noob if you change your kit when you're medic. And new SLs will learn.
#3 it tends to work out better when the guy who is getting the gun knows how to / is good with the weapon he is getting i for one CANNOT stand the brit marksman kit so if i got put in as the marksman our squad would be skrewed
-You could simply inform the SL that you're not any good with the kit, instead of changing your kit when you're medic.

The "forcing teamwork" argument doesn't really hold that much water anyway, this idea is "forcing" teamwork because it forces people to take SLs (maybe even commanders if your teams working THAT well) desired kits, but that's a pretty realistic portrayal cos I assume grunts don't get to choose their own gear. I don't really see how that's "forcing" teamwork anymore then making sure if your in a squad with a sucky SL then you don't have as badder game as you could potentially have if they had less power, why not have the entire squad have a vote on where rally points should be placed, and what flag your gonna attack?

This kinda thing is just gonna separate the lame squad leaders from the good ones to another degree, and give people another reason to join a good squad. Also it has the overall benefit of things that have a bigger, teamwide impact such as; not wasting kits - especially when you come to a situation when the team NEEDS it, not wasting armour, not wasting air assets, curbing stupid lonewolfs, promoting the idea that to have a good (and get a kit you wanna use) your gonna have to not act like a ****.

Would be nice if there were a way of having snipers requestable in a way that they could be available in 1 man squads, although that would have to be through the commander, which would be lame.

I really don't want the SL to be the "kit babysitter/gofer" guy!
-Flight.

he wont. example:

"SL can i have this kit?"
"no"
"ok".

end of story.

Flight! you didnt read the entire thread!

You can use the page up down option.

I don't think you really need to read the whole thread to get a general opinion on this. I've already explained the reasons I'm against this, so I don't feel inclined to do it again.

Competent squad leaders are the only things needed, not this forced whatever this is.

The page up and down option is still a pain, what happens when you create a sniper squad? Still doesn't solve that issue. And during a firefight the squad leader will usually be too focused on everything else to pay attention to some kid requesting a kit, which will lead to the kid screaming into the microphone "SQUAD LEADER ACCEPT MY KIT!!" Repeatedly, until he's kicked from the squad and throws a hissy-fit.

I see more bad coming from this idea than good. I think it's just best to leave things the way they are.

-It'll cut down considerably on my babysitting time because I no longer have to notify people of what kits I don't want them to pick up and then yelling at them for picking them up anyway because they're retarded. I spend considerable amounts of time checking my squad loadout because they can't seem to keep their grubby little hands off limited kits, as well as conveying instructions and stuff like that. I already babysit you, this will only reduce the amount, not increase it.

I just dont see the hard part of this, if someone in my squad really wanted a kit, and i said no. There would be a 50 % chance that he would actually grab it, or just play on with the kit he had.

An yes, tartantyco is right, i already do alot of babysitting, and if people take kits i dont approve off i get really annoyed. But its coming to the point where i dont bother anymore, why should i tell them? Im really tired, i mean tiread, exausted, of people just grabbing kits and not being a part of the team.

I follow the whole disskussion.

And my point dont turn. Im totally against it.

I´ve the sl is good the ppl in the sq can asked to take the kit that the sl wants. i´ve he dont do it, ask him why or kick him.

Problem solved.

With the new system, its the same, the sm request the kit he wants, if the SL is against it he will say no. And now think what happend. If im in a sq and the leader ever wants that i handle the grappy kits, and dont explain me why, i leave the sq and search for another.

Same end for me...

and to the Sq loadout thing.

That means the leader takes for examle the tanker loadout. Then this sq has reserved all the tanks for his sq. Because when i get it right, the Sq with another loadout cant even get the right kit to drive in a tank.

And now think the SL of this sq is a little stupid and dont know how to lead a tank Sq.

What then, search for another server or change the team?

And then think it was a map with air assets. I think it becomes nightmare!

NEVER change a running system! And for me and many other guys i play pr with it runs very well.

you must read closer, i have all ready said why not make it so you dont have to request SL for crewman and pilot kit.

Well gazz that was my idea, to have loadouts.
but @bsurd you could only include infantry in that idea though, and the rest can request crewman or pilot.

well im not talking layouts, just the average SM can access Q coms rose and request crewman and pilot , rest the SL needs to request.

If this can be done in a good way (wich i doubt) it will be really good. Otherwise, it will really suck and probably f*ck up gameplay.
