Nice picture, where'd you find it? I heard they made a Type 98 based on the AK-74M but that looks more like a pic I've seen of a Type 88.

Zastava is a Yugoslav design... And there is no real difference between the Zastava and the Soviet SVD in terms of performance, so the sniper kit would be completely pointless.

Hmm... that could do. I still like the Zastava idea better because they make their own version called the JeoGyeokBoChong, but I suppose it is easier to use SVD. The loss of the sniper kit would hardly be felt anyways considering aside from n00bs hardly anybody uses them, at least effectively. Besides, it adds to the whole asymmetrical balance thing by forcing more NK players to get close up to their enemy. Most NK maps would also end up having BluFor on the defensive probably, save for Pyongyang. Snipers are not quite so good on offensive I've found.

The only real important thing about the sniper kit at the moment is that it has a SOFLAM laser designator. NK will probably not use anything like that anyway so imo there is no point of having a sniper kit.

They still need a GLTD for artillery. The best thing to do is to keep a more limited sniper kit that has a GLTD and some kind of modified Zastava to avoid obsoleting the Marksman kit.

Can't the binoculars used by the militia, taliban and insurgents be used for artillery?

You're right, giving NK laser designators would look so wrong About the sniper rifle, aren't there any Mosin Nagant with PU scope from the old days of Korean War in their arsenal ?

I would think that the Mosin-Nagant has become obsolete, even in NK.

i think since so many people want the nks to have an scoped rifleman {which is kinda unrealistic imo} , the best thing to do would be to make it a limited kit. like i said before, if you make it a base kit like the other factions, everyone is just gonna choose that kit and then your gonna have tons of nk soldiers running around with scopes. which although im not expert i think that wouldnt be realistic at all.

Anyways I doubt even the SKS is in frontline service in the North. Just because Wikipedia lists it doesn't mean their typical army grunt might have one. They list the DP too. But we're still using RPD for the automatic rifleman hopefully. Weapons that are probably gonna be included are:

-Type 88 (AK-74)
-Type 62 machine gun (RPD)
-RPG-7 (it'd be pretty dumb not to give it to them)
-SVD (marksman probably)
-JeoGyeokBoChong (Zastava, sniper assuming we go with gclark's idea, or it could be marksman rifle instead of SVD)
-Not sure about pistol at all. Some want the old WW2 era TT-33, I think the initial design plan in the first page had a PM Makarov, and wiki also lists them as having a locally produced CZ-75 called the Baek-Du-San

charliegrs: If they make their own scopes, I don't see why they wouldn't put them on Type 88s in favor of SKSs. It makes no sense to have your scoped rifles be reserve/parade weapons. The last war where they was used as a common infantry weapon was Vietnam, and even the Vietnamese nowadays only use them for special police forces. I know North Korea's a third-world country, but that's due in no small part to the fact that they spend more percentage-wise on their army than anybody else. I think they can afford scopes, at least for their top-of-the-line rifles instead of the reserve's reserves.

Trust me, NK has the money to buy scopes. They spend a lot of their money on military, and I'm pretty sure they'll have a plenty of Chinese scopes.

I wouldn't call NK a 3rd world country. It's actually got a high HDI. It's just that half of the money goes back to military.

Exactly, they spend so much money on military the average standard of living is worse than most African countries. Which means they'd probably put their scopes on Type 88's. Besides, in PR you always have to assume you are fighting the enemy's highest quality troops, hence the PLA with digital camouflage and QBZ-95s. If you go back a few pages you'll find a link I posted with a picture of a NK-made scope that the caption said they put on SVDs at least.

Gives me an idea, should they have relatively few kits wearing helmets? Does make them more distinct and even in the Korean War few wore helmets, preferring the somewhat-iconic hats if I ain't mistaken.

Those cone-hats make them a bit easy to identify.

Exactly, lessens the chance of friendly fire between KPA or RoK dudes. Unless you're all for the idea of trying to infiltrate through enemy lines, which is good too.

No, we do need to make them. It might look a bit like Chinese from afar but it's more viny and only shades of green mostly. By the way, once we get settled on the sniper/DMR issue and decide which pistol to use, somebody needs to make a design plan. The Type 88 should be a relatively simple AK-74 reskin. I ain't a modder, I wouldn't know. The Chonma Ho V would be a reskin of the T-62 wouldn't it? Though you'd have to add the extra bits and larger gun, maybe.

I recommend that the DPRK is modeled on the Taliban faction. An insurgency faction in East Asia, although armed with T-54's, BMP-1's, aircraft and AK weaponry.

On November 15, 1974 while in operation in the western DMZ near Korangpo, allied reconnaissance troops found steam rising from the earth's surface indicating that a tunnel was present underneath the DMZ. The tunnels depth is believed to be some 45 meters, has a total length of 3,500 meters of which 1,000 meters invaded into the DMZ. The tunnel is along a course that would have exiting soldiers heading towards Korango, Uijongbu and is some 65 km from Seoul, 8 km northeast of Korangpo. It has a prefabricated wall of concrete and slate. When discovered, there were 220-volt and 60-watt lamps, electric lines, railways, and track vehicles. The ground is inclined by 5 degrees to the north to prevent water from gathering. There are turning points on the railroad. The tunnel is large enough to allow the transit of a regiment of troops and heavy artillery every hour.

DMZ - DPRK Tunnels


Apparently, the North Koreans have been preparing for the mother of all insurgencies since the 1960's. North Korea has been described as the beehive nation, rumored to have thousands of kilometers of laid tunnels throughout the country.

And some of these tunnels are big enough to allow tanks to pass through. And apparently North Korea even has airbases built into the sides of mountains.
Essentially my impression is that the DPRK's war plan was to artillery Seoul, give the military time to retreat underground, while border guards hold back the enemy.


I imagine we could expand on this by using EA statics (I'm thinking of that large tunnel entrance with the brown door) and the tunnel network on Kolesek.


Synopsis of gameplay


1. Similar to Iraqi Insurgency and Taliban. The US Coalition must hunt for North Korean Caches (or maybe the option could be the destruction of tunnel beams, which can only be blown up from the inside?)

2. In some of the larger underground bases, T-54's, T-62's and BMPs can spawn. Although not a match for an Abrams, will nevertheless slow down Allied LAVs. And if a cache is located in the mountain, it could be housing an airplane spawn, maybe one of the Little Birds North Korea had bought?

(OH-6A Cayuse / AH-6J Little Bird - Military Aircraft They had bought a hundred through 3rd parties and




I imagine it's possible to supplement models from the various factions. Re-skin the British technical with a black paint. Use the ingame Ak-47s. Use the Iraqi T-54. Maybe change the T-72 a bit to represent some of North Korea's indigenous versions. Little Bird can be painted with a brown camouflage. I think you get the idea
