Really ? Hmm I had heard that people were getting kicked for it as well. I have disabled it in the PR version ....

Ok I will re-enable it then ... but have it switched off by default, then users can decide if they want it or not.

yep, i experienced some problems with Teamspeak overlay in past, but Mumble one works fine, i always play with enabled overlay, only problem is if you start mumble after PR overlay doesnt work

That happens automatically ... you also have the force center option.

I have the client finished (apart from getting cosmetics sorted ... I have some of the skin in there, but to get the official PR skin working fully you will need to skin it following the instructions in the set up thread. I should have this sorted for the final version though).

I just have to finish the server version and its binding to the client (and this is unfortunately the more difficult of the tasks).

I am thinking I might make the beta version of the PRmumble client available for download ...

a) as an open beta test to make sure I haven't right royally fucked it up :D

b) because I have been using some folks for testing it, and the difference between the confusion that seems to result trying to set the official version up the way PR should have it set up , and the simplicity of the one I have done, which is install and its all done for you, makes me think that simply the beta PRclient would encourage many many more people to use it in PR, because setting it up seems to be half the stumbling block for people. They curse and swear at it for not working properly , when its actually down to pilot error ;) . The version I have made I have been told reliably sorts all that out ... those that have used it say it is just so easy compared to trying to set it up your self. Ease of use translates to uptake and acceptance.

However I will have to ask fuzz and see what he thinks.

Well. Im up for it, as long as the "PR" Skin doesnt slow down my computer :P

So, bring it to fuzz, and then show it to us... :D

Squad coordination wins the game and it should be fairly easy. Just assign rally points to each squad, have one squadleader scout out the area and call in TOW and what not if need be and then have the squads move in toegether, either from a rally point, or from different rally points out of different directions.

I agree each server should run TS and many do, but some make it only accesible to people registered on their site, or even worse, only to clanmembers o.O .

Cassious did you read the thread? :P

Anyways, i agree, squad coordination does win the day, i remember just today where me and 2 other squads with apcs, fought togheter on falluja, that was pretty cool.

On your TS, when we get the mumble going, there wont really be a huge need for TS, maybe for meetings and such.... or maybe not. I mean there are more channels than one in the Official Mumble server for PR.

TOW isnt always availible on all maps though, you mean HAT? But i dont know about attacking from different directions, it does really all come down to what map your on.

organized TS is impossible on public game, you overestimate it

Hey! ive played on Public servers with TS, and organized it, up to several times. But then that generally means that the opposite team isnt organized...

Im using the overlay for mumble now, makes seeing who who is alot easier. Althoug i wonder. The overlay is the thing that makes you see who is talking or who is in the same channel as you, ingame, where you choose to put it of course.

Now in terms of what is realistic, we should be using the "this is squad 1 calling squad 2, do you copy?"

But not all people do that. So:

When we get the PR version, will we in the overlay see what squad is talking?

Like when squad one is talking it will show like this:

[SL Squad 1] Rudd

Or something?

Instead of just squadleader team 1 channel, or what it is now?

BTW i know i made a double post, but this is a bump :P

No I dont think that is possible at present. The only way you could do that is if all the squads are set up in the mumble channel as that is where the info for the overlay comes from.

If you wanted mumble to be a replacement for the various in game VOIP systems that you use, then you would probably have to get the mumble channels set up so that they reflected the game set up ... then you would have the problems of making sure everyone was in the right channel. It is possible that this may be able to be done on mumble with some clever use of RPCs as BFCC can grab what squad you are in ... but don't hold your breath, you are getting into complicated territory here. Its certainly something I would have no idea how to do at present (and I have far more important concerns to deal with first).

The first incarnation of PRMumble is going to be simple. We may build on that later. However as mumble itself has some pretty radical changes to the way its working coming up pretty soon in 1.2 version , simplicity will be the key ... as the more complicated it gets, the more changes there are to make as the version updates.

glad to hear it, baby steps are safe steps.

Right now, having all SLs in the SL channels on mumble and all the rest in the main channel is far more effective than any other teamwork medium

Just follow these simple guidelines

When something concerns your squad as a whole, use bf2 voip.

When something conerns you and those near you, but not necessarily your squad in part or entirity, use mumble.

When you are a Sl and need to talk to another SL directly, use the SL channel, use force center, use radio discipline.

^ by that I mean use basic radio protocol to keep the traffic down, and allow other SLs to overrule you if they have a priority message.

As SL always use normal mumble chat over force center if you have the oppotunity unless the information conerns the whole team. This keeps traffic down.

One thing I would like is if I could mute the SL channel only, but still use push to talk, that way if 2 squad leaders or more are talking and I don't need to hear it, I'd be able to quieten them.

Now before you all go "omg that sounds ****" think about it. Its a max of 10 people in that channel, if you have 32 people in a TS channel, they will all hear you! At least this way the chat is down, and the positional audio is used so that only a select few will hear you speak.

But even with only the SLs on mumble mumble is still better than TS, because that way SLs can talk without disturbing other SLs when using positional for simple things like "where to?"

I am gonna get some videos together showing the superiority of mumble in terms of teamwork, stay tuned.

-I would prefer it if you could have volume control for individual channels and have a *beep* noise added to force center. I like hearing the SL chatter and may at times pick up on relevant information to my squad, and either on/off mute or hold-to-mute could become an issue if you forget to turn it off or laborious, respectively. The *beep* should be anomalous so that you can hear it distinctly and it would alert you to a possible broadcast to you. Preset volume levels would also be nice, so you can set a key to lower volume to 60% or increase to 100% without having to go up or down 10% at a time. So, basically you have the volume at 60%(or whatever) and you hear the *beep*, they're not calling you so you keep doing what you're doing. Another *beep*, your squad being called, you bump the volume up to 100% and you talk.
