Re: Why do you hate mumble?
I don't like Mumble at all.
It acts as a division in the community.
1. Mumble exclusive events.
2. Further splitting the use of TS, Vent, Xfire and BF2 VOIP
3. More bandwidth.
4. No one uses it (even on a mumble day I only heard two sentences in...3 hours?)
5. I can't talk to anyone on it, only hear people (like quite a few us).
6. It isn't that thrilling anyway.
7. Uses more keys on keyboard.
8. It is horrible to select the server and then channel.
9. Divisions in method - ALL channel or Team channel.
10. Can give away positions and interrupt squad communication (or at least on older version it did. People wouldn't use BF2 VOIP because they are imbeciles and had their options on voice activated...absolutely stupendous).
Just use VOIP and team chat.
DICE did something really good (for the time) and then people fault it.
I prefer everything to be simple and as you can gather from the points I listed, it isn't so simple and so for that reason - I don't use it.

In theory Mumble is a great tool. And when used right it is can be a wonderful system. No question about it. But in reality it's lots of work for little or no pay off. Plus the points I listed that get my goat up. IE: everybody saying "Mumble test, Mumble test is it working" every few minutes.

Mumble is a tool, just like a knife or a fork. We can say hey this is great for eating food, but its also great for killing. A car is a awesome means of transportation, but i dont have to point out that with great speed comes great responsibility.
Mumble creates alot of teamwork, but can also frustrate people who has little understanding for retards checking their mumble. Or people singing out loud. Most people arent smart enough to think outside their own box, and naturally asume their voice is something everyone wants to listen to. Its not, shut up, play the game. If you want to test your microphone get a friend on xfire to check it. Not in a channel where 32 players are currently in a firefight, calling cas or issuing orders.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
I only wonder how people can give spam as a reason to not use mumble. If you move away from a guy he gets more silent and finally mute if you are far away. It does not work that way with ingame voip. If you dont want to hear them talking right now you can deafen yourself, try that with the ingame voip. Yes I know you can disable that, but not while you are logged in.

It is very easy to mute undesireable people with microphones in-game without pausing

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
I bind the push to talk to mouse wheel and it's incredibly easy to use on the fly. It takes approx. 30 seconds at the most to set up and when I'm playing 2-3 hour rounds and sometimes a few of them in a row, the time spent setting it up is negligible.
IMO if you think mumble isn't worth using you haven't seen it working properly. The ability to casually talk to those around you, independent of squads is incredibly powerful. For example, you jump in a chopper and tell him the grid ref saving you a good 20 seconds or so typing in and responding. Or earlier on NWA where I told an apc the co ords of infantry to fire upon as I additionally told it to move up behind us in close support. Or when you're crewing armour and you don't spam the voip with commands to each other because you're using mumble locally.
Without mumble simple actions are lengthened considerably and main reason why it isn't used more is because of people sharing the mindset "well if no one else is, I won't either". Use mumble and others will too. If you don't hold yourself to a high standard then you'll never play to a high standard.

Its hard to figure out.
Right now I cant figure out what channel im supposed to be in and I dont know if I need to be on team 1 or team 2...........
HELP ME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
If mumble had an ingame user interface overlay like steam and Xfire it would help out ALOT.

Team 1 will usually be BLUFOR (USA, Russians on Beirut) while Team 2 are the baddies. Just press tab to look at the scoreboard, take note of the names, and look in mumble to see which channel they're in.

OMFG some people says "mumble check", "can you hear me" every 3 sec. Yeah you're right, it's terrific! We gonna die all of us! And, in fact is not true every 3 sec.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
Guess there are valid reasons not to use mumble, if the mumble spam on the server you play on is really so mindblowing, or if you are so sensitive to spam that you would be unable to serve in any army, because you would just turn your radio off.
But what I am REALLY curious about is why those who do not like using mumble, do like using Teamspeak or vent, seen as mumble does a lot of things Teamspeak does and localized speech on top of it.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
TS-PLUS Mumble recess. Mumble is used when necessary! They do not tell me: "Wai but when my SL is more than 20 m I do not expect more ....
"It is true that Mumble is a software nasa seeking a degree from Harvard ... No harder than TS.
-You can not hear the enemy with 2 channels! Less realistic? No, because it will be for a team total stranger (eg match).
-ALL the medics you are effectively and laugh as you're not in the same squad.
A death-medic can point to a squad or a man without his medic kit is there.
Com-direct the APCs to transport or potential targets (key = still = death or loss of time) l.
Once-only without his squad can be done all at one go with that just joined because you talk to!
-The exchange of vehicles between squads is direct and no keyboard (keyboard = still = death or loss of time).
-A support group can speak only without interfering with the strike group by excessive community very distressing.
-The squads are much more competent as they tend to communicate new plans to deal with new situations and real-time face-to-face (eg you defend, you attack).
Com-direct positions between soldiers short. Practice as a humvee gunner of finding himself without his squad.
All-demand whatsoever of ammunition etc. no longer pose the problem of Russian language and so on. Before when I asked for a Russian mun I do not even know. Non-existent problem for those who play all the voices in Glossary, a reminder: By doing this you do not hear the voices behind enemy walls etc..
-No one is more precisely identified with a "I need ammo" or "thanks" screamed very loud like a c. ..
-Immersion and realism altogether.
All these advantages are gathered win 50 tickets and 20 minutes of play (if the enemy team is zero or less mumblers) to switch to another map.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
Because in the real world:Cassius wrote:Guess there are valid reasons not to use mumble, if the mumble spam on the server you play on is really so mindblowing, or if you are so sensitive to spam that you would be unable to serve in any army, because you would just turn your radio off.
- Not everyone has a radio
- The people with the radios have at least weeks, sometimes years of training in using those radios
- If you have a radio and screw around, not only could people die, but it'll get revoked really quickly
- Anyone can be in the "Squad Leader Channel", forcing everyone to listen to them drone on about whatever they want, muting them also mutes important communications
- If the correct people are in the correct channels, a true lack of understanding means pertinent information can be passed over as useless, and useless information can be passed as pertinent. By accident.
- If you screw around in mumble while NOT using force center, it becomes much harder to get up the will to alt tab, find an admin, explain the problem to the admin, and get the problem fixed
- Technical difficulties involving vehicles or linking with bf2 can be difficult to diagnose and impossible to fix
- A lack of administrators and moderators available within Mumble frequently make dealing with problematic users difficult
- Mumble will use, no matter how small, some additional system resources. Gamers are far more likely to pass over an extra program even if the actual impact is negligible if the perceived impact is large
- Even well intentioned users experience trouble locating the correct server room and team, as well as setting up the correct binds
- Only communities/clans with strict communications protocols in place are able to discern what is important to transmit and what is not. There is a lack of a generally agreed upon standard within the PR community as a whole, basic asset type and grid square aside.
- There is a pervasive lack of maturity within the community. Taunting and singing (as examples) are still commonplace on servers with both single and double rooms. In addition, cases exist where users will exploit the two room system for tactical advantages and are not punished due to either not being caught or admins/moderators not caring enough to dispose of them.
The arguments in favor of using mumble are well documented, I figured I'd try and whip up a more concise list of the presented arguments against it so far.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Re: Why do you hate mumble?
Seriously anyone who thinks that mumble will spam your ears obviously has never used it on a server like TG or UKWF (When every1 uses it on UKWF)
Only reason I don't use it automatically is because unless everyone has it it's not very good (unless you're with a group of friends split into two squads)
I saw someone on the first page saying because they didn't want other people listening on their private conversations..... made me laugh so hard, you don't have to talk on mumble 100% of the time, infact if you do then it'll get annoying, you should use it WITH VoiP and just use it to tell people around you vital stuff.
Going back to my first point - I used to play in a Tournament for FH2 called World At War. In this tournament the main form of communication between the squad leaders, tanks, planes, and battlefield commander/command staff was through Channel Commander on Teamspeak. That means every squad leader, tanker, pilot, and command staff person could here what every other squad leader, tanker, pilot, and command staff person is saying on CC. These things range from spotting enemies to sit reps on flags, requests for orders, or in some cases banter. That's right, constant spam being shouted into everyone's ears, along with your actual squad asking you what to do & you having to command them. Mumble is NOTHING like that, you only get useful information, or when it's quiet banter (and banter is one of the things that makes the best squads) from people.
Guys who are complaining about taunting & singing... y so serius?
