I don't really know but that is what you say if you click " need medic" as a UK soldier.
I thought it was code so the enemy did not know you were calling for a medic.

Role playing is hilarious when it's intentional fun, like the kinda guys that always play insurgent and talk about ridding the land of the infidels, but when you get guys calling their SL Boss, "requesting orders", and commanders that want to be called "Sir" it's annoying. You're not an officer dude, you're some guy sitting behind a PC looking at a screen just like everyone else on the server.

I don't really mind the casual attitude, unless it's actually hindering what the squad does.

funny incident:
playing on that chinease map where it is an island, US has carier, bnuke silo, airfield, or something
i was on the top on the control building, with a 1/2 dozen friendlies, porne, i spy a boat drop of squad at 215...

me: enemy...full squad...215 request weapons free!
.....
me: request weapons free
**the marines take cover**
SL:.....yeah...like shoot at them or someting...

True, in a public server I'm happy enough just to have people who've got a mic and some willingness to use it.

Haha yeah, this game needs a bootcamp to teach people the basics. ^^
Things like the compass, formations, fireteams and flanking maneuvers, basic commands etc.

Having a squad leader that doesn't tell the squad what to do doesn't work in this game. So many times I've ended up in a squad where the SL is just sitting around doing nothing, no one calling out targets, so occasionally they stop to shoot at our own teammates because the ones who saw that they were friendlies didn't call it out. SL doesn't explain wether or not weapons are free or safe. It just makes everything a chore.

When I'm leading I make sure to start off with the ROE.

"Allright, you and you, Sierra 1, you and you, Sierra 2, me and him, Sierra Actual.
Column formation, 10 meter spread, Sierra 1 takes point, Sierra 2 covers our backs.
Weapons are safe, call out everything you see. Any questions?"

And then I go "Wajamabajama?" along with the rest of the squad.

You do know that some of us live in homes with our family? Maybe they would rather not here us yelling obscenities at the top of my lungs, swearing at a virtual world and to them, talking complete and utter rubbish?

I do however love playing and being very assertive over VOIP when the time calls for it however. You just have to understand that we all don't live in a sound proof room by ourselves.

like role playing but mixing it with casual

SL: Do not fire unless fired upon, when we lock down this flag gimme your name and covering arcs.

SM1: Bob covering SE

SM2: Fred Covering NW

SM3: Rob Covering SW Door... I hear knocking i think someone's collecting for the red cross should I let him in?

SL: No run away and turn the lights off, pretend we arent in...

SM4: I got another one here.... Oh Shit This one's a Jehovah's Witness....

SL: Open Fire!!!

SM5: Ahhhh I'm hit!!! Nurse, Nurse!!!

Medic: I'm on you man...

SM5: ooo, nice stockings, do you come here often?

SL: Alright boys we're being Tangoed from the northern side, Withdraw to Checkpoint Alpha In your two fireteams, Bravo team go first and lay down a suppressing fire for Alpha... Alpha team, peg it like there's a rocket up your *** and avoid those flying bits of metal that are bad for your health.

SM4: you mean bullets?

SL: Yea, that's the fella :P

That's a typical round in my squad lol

Problem is it's hard to find people who are intelligent enough to have a joke and a mess around yet still work together efficiently

As long as they tell you where the enemy is or w/e they need i dont see the problem.. Adds to the realism

Hmm, this thread is back after a month.

I enjoy singing over Voip tbh, although I try and suppress the urge when something important is being done. :D

Personally, I don't mind "Roger/Copy/sitrep" because I'm used to hearing that. What I cannot f**king stand are people who want to roleplay US Marines or British Army and go all out on voice procedure, then insist their squad moves *just* like Steven Seagal did in Under Siege between the aft and poop deck :| < sarcasm. Then they all die. It's horrible, and to me is just kids playing at soldiers without going outside and doing what us oldies did as kids with sticks.

Basic VP is all I use on a local net in work, so what makes people think I'm going to play a PC game and get more hard core in that than I do in work? I play to have fun and have a laugh, usually with my clan mates or the other devs. There's ways of passing info effectivly over VOIP without resorting to BATCO for ''accuracy''.

Don't even get me started on the kids on training servers who start up RANGER squads and go parachuting. Then half way down didn't know there's no chutes any more >: D Oh how I laughed. I was told I was a fake [R-DEV]Gaz too :P

I usually adopt to what the SL is like, concerning BF2 VOIP.

Because (I'm a woman) I'm usually multi-tasking anyway and having a debate on Vent with clanmates. ;)

If the SL adopts a very roleplaying style, I'll try my best to copy (my knowledge of military terms is somewhat poor, but I do try), but if he's very casual and speaks in layman's terms, I'll probably be a bit more chatty and make silly comments at inopportune times. Alternatively, if the SL doesn't really talk at all I sometimes have a habit of taking control.. Eh heh.

We want more of you Gaz!! :(

Roleplaying really gets on my nerves too.

yeah, I say alpha bravo etc etc, but thats only cuz it pissed me off when someone goes "yeah, its in B4 kp 2"

"righto, D4kp2 it is"

"no, B, for bernard!"

Squad comms, expecially inter squad coms need to be as simple and clear as possible without filling it with needless traffic, Especially when I'm using mumble I can have a great many people trying to talk to me.

And I'm not entirely inexperienced in the real world with radios now, as soon as St John approves it I'll be going on the radio control course.

So I let my lads fill the net with jokes and what not, then when a fight is on the way or somit, I get em to focus and stop needless chatter.

i know some ppl find it strange when the military roleplay is going on.

but i think when i play a game where i run around with small and big guns theres nothing wrong if i do this with a serious attitude.
i mean is it worse to think "i killed a target, one step in order to proceed" rather than "LOL- i killed a guy, how funny"?

I don't really care, I play PR for the game-play experience. Having people more enthusiastic is a bonus but having people too enthusiastic is far more annoying than what you are talking about.

You got to remember that PR at times can be boring. There are times where you got to walk for many minutes just to get anywhere. Times where you are defending caches or objectives and are sitting there for what seems like 30 minutes for the enemy to get there stuff together and get the balls to attack it.

Some days without the assistance of coffee. I find it hard not to yawn in VOIP when playing PR. That is if you are a patient gamer and ready to waste 10 minutes just to ambush a enemy or wait for a vehicle to go over your IED, etc.

I like to yell "Hot Damn" whenever something (like a vehicle) blows up near our squad.
