If we'd take it to the next level, you'd not have pushtotalk, but have EVERYTHING heard by the guys near you. Would be very cool to hear ppl next to you sigh, hiccup, and brable incoherent stuff.

The program have no ptt button default, so we've had a few with that. Damn annoying I must say :D .

And we have experimented with using the alternative ptt in mumble to the same button as the pr squad chat, so that everytime you speak the enemy/nearby can hear you and if you use the "radio" squadchat the whole squad will hear you, and those near you will hear both the radio with a slight delay and the "irl" mumble talk.

And the rolloff function is now integrated into the maxdistance and minaudio settings in the latest snapshot.

It doesn't work well though. See my post on their forums for explanations why...

Yea, I agree with you as stated earlier with the 20m tests, with the sound decrease only the last 5 meters.

Good round on Archer, my mortars too :D

Mixed feelings on this program upto now, needs refining, but as Rudd says give it time

Good Idea but as with all good ideas, it takes a while to get it just right, roll on mumble v.85 ;)

Very interesting, and has some great possiblities.

Does it have a default language so as to to mute other languages that you can't understand.

Mute languages you can't understand? Mute? Like the software filtering it out for you? :o

Is it possible to have 2 "layers" if you will to the function? A speech AND a radio one? Depends on how much you can play with the program of course, but it would be cool to have the tinny distorted sounds of incoming radio (along with the functionality of being able to communicate with commander and other squads obviously) as well as real time, everyone can hear me, voice communication. Or would the plan be just to use VOIP to commander or for this function?

Or is using TS and Mumble simultaneously a viable option? Would that cause unbearable lag?

My French is rusty, my Norwegian is abysmal I can't understand German and can just about get a hotel room in Spanish. so hearing people rambling on in other languages would be pointless, so to have the muted automatically would be nice.

Me and those I test with have it setup so that,
*mumble for close range coms inbetween individuals, that be regular infantry and squad leaders, infantry to apc drivers for transports/contact reports etc.
*Ingame voip for radio comms within the squad, when you have split up into fireteams/buddyteams etc.
*Ventrilo for radio coms between squad leaders, tank drivers etc.

You could also set it up so that you have the same alternative push to talk key in mumble as your radio ingame voip button in PR. So that everyone around you can hear you radio in stuff to your squad if they are close enough. Just as in real life.

Yeah. Because you *want* to hear some kid's mum shout "ERNEST! IT'S TIME FOR BED!" or whatever.

It'd mean a right pain in the arse if the phone went whilst playing, too - alt-tab out to mute the mic or whatever, to ensure that every player within a 20m radius doesn't hear me telling my bank that I don't need another credit card or my ex that she's a PITA... No thanks, PTT works quite nicely for me.

Unless you invent the best voice recognition algorithms ever made until now, I doubt you'll ever see that exist. They already have a hard time identifying what you're saying in one language, and you want them to mute different languages? See you in 2070, even then I doubt we'll have something THAT accurate.
And TBH, that's just completely useless... Why would it matter so much if somebody speaks in X language near you? Does it make you sneeze? Are you allergic? :p

PS : I can see the motivations behind the filtering, I find them very innapropriate IMO.
