I'm probably really behind the times, but it's early and I'm off to work, so I still get to say silly things.
Could you parent a second, invisible vehicle to the actual helicopter, and with it, 8 extra seats?

i have done Air Assult ops at FT Campbell, the way you aproch the back of the Chinook is from a 45 degree angle, this is due to the exaust, it also keeps the feild of fire clear for the 50Cal, sorta, lol. always loaded and unloaded from the ramp when i was on it.

im not saying scratch the Chinok, maybe put 2 - 4 static crates in it to take up space, then let it drop 2 crates. and when it has weapons its usualy a M-240B on each door and a 50. on the ramp. for those that were wondering.
If you're worried about us being able to simulate ride comfort, we'll ensure that PR 0.9 comes with a warning.

Pssst. Wrong on the loadout. In answering the actual suggestion, I believe "

" will suffice.

Wow, you were Air Assault? Bet that was fun doing all that training.

I never had any problem with the seats in the CH-47, I thought they were comfortable enough that I usually fell asleep like a baby after a few minutes.
And the real CH-47 is designed to hold 33 troops (or 24 litters), plus their combat gear. It's impossible to hold more than 33 troops safely because the aircraft only has 33 seats available. No aircrew would permit more soldiers to be loaded than the seating capacity, or they would be subject to losing their flight status.
The Chinook has a very strong use on the modern battlefield, and is capable of duties that no other helicopter in the US inventory is capable of. It has a much larger internal cargo capacity as well as a higher sling-load limit than the UH-60 variants, and the CH-47 is constantly being updated when new technology becomes available.
The loading of the troops from a 45-degree angle has nothing to do with engine exhaust. The desire to load troops from that approach and departure angle is to ensure the flight engineer/crew chief can maintain visual of the troops to ensure they have left the rotor safety zone prior to securing the helicopter for takeoff. It is fully possible to load the helicopter from the rear at a straight approach. You load the way the flight engineer tells you to, or else you walk.
For those curious about just how the aircraft looks in real life, for size comparison, here are some images I just scanned of an old AA training I did, circa 1998-ish.

strapping seats, LOL, thats funny, better than no seat tho, lol. but no i wasnt talking about the ride comfort, i was jsut comenting on the Humer question as to why there are only 5 spots and why we dont have a guy in the center IRL, thats all....

baisicly....no room, its maybe 2-3 feet clearence in the center.
eh, ridding around almost an hour cramped with a bunch of guys in the middle of the night having your legs fall asleep cus there doin seats out sitting on your ruck to make room for the rest of your chalk......that part, not too fun, never did the actul "air assault school" thou, but all that is for is to teach sling loads, lz selection, fast roping and rappeling from a helo, adn how to ground guid a bird. but then again the birds usualy land for conventional forces. It was good training, wouldnt skip strait to fun though, lol

that is true :/ and yer when I was entering and exiting the chinook we didn't do it at 45 degrees coz of exhausts, like Dan said, you'd only do that for the aircrew's benefit
