Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
I Believe it was Wikipedia.. If I remember it correctly. Could be no but I voted for specific website.
While back out of the blue I thought "I been playing this PC FPS game thing for a while after I learned about it, and I have heard there is some kind of privately created MOD thing. Why haven't I tried yet?"
Probably reason was I don't like to install or open website that is not legitimate. I'm afraid of PC virus etc and that was probably why I have never seriously looked into MOD thing. Another reason was playing MOD of PC game sounded little geeky.
So I started searching it on google. Probably never opened any of millions of threads out there. I went onto Wikipedia and searched about BF2 and MOD.
I was specific to begin with. When I first started looking for BF2 MOD I was looking for "BF2, MOD, Realistic"
Yeah. I remember now as I type here. When I first bought BF2 after I saw someone else playing it, I was HUGELY disappointed. I was looking for realistic war FPS not this ----. I totally wasted my $50.
I remember when I played BF2 I was always trying to figure out how to play BF2 realistic. Taking careful aim with chinese AK47, burst firing with SMG... Only thing that felt even slightly realistic was the sniper rifle. That is why I was looking for reality MOD for BF2.
..And that is probably why I so eagerly post whenever I find thread arguing what to do with PR and reality. Maybe my origin of why I ended up here makes me do so.
Before the BF2 I was always playing FPS called Vietcong. That's only FPS I ever played. Now, always PR.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't remember me anymore, but I learned about the mod from Carebear back when we were in WN in '06. I thought the mod was cool but I didn't have the patience/time for it, wasn't until .6 that it really caught on with me at least.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
I remember seeing a youtube video or something like that, and was midly intrigued. I thought about downloading it, but I guess I just forgot about it. The first time I saw the ad in vBf2, I was like "Oh yeah...That one mod". So I asked a friend on xfire if he ever heard of it, and he said he had been playing it for awhile. So I downloaded it. Version was .85 if I remeber correctly.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
There was an article in a Game Informer magazine for PR under a 'Mod of the Month section' or something of the like. Figured I'd give it a try. Had a hell of a time getting vBF2 and all the patches/drivers installed on my system. It was totally worth the effort. I think it was .85?

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
Sadly I thought cod 4 was realistic until my friend told me about his brother who is an 0311 in the marines. I looked up real combat videos and instantly though cod was retarded, so I looked up realism mods and found pr in 2007 but didn't play till a few weeks ago bc my comp couldn't even start it up.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
playing bf2 got invited to some clan randomly in 2007. been with these guys ever since. they talked me into pr by explaining the awesomeness of it. the bleeding out, skillful drops, 1 bullet can kill etc.
don't know what version it was but it was the one just before they introduced civilians and couldn't marvel over how good of an idea this was. this was when i knew this would be the greatest game i will ever play

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
I had been playing BF2142 and Bad Company, but I had a friend who was really into this mod. Basically, I bought BF2 so that I could play Project Reality. After playing this mod, there really isn't any other game that stands up to it. Everything else is just too easy.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
i was looking for realistic games that could at least compare to arma 2 since i couldnt run arma 2 very well myself. I was then searching up for mods for older games that i knew my computer would destroy and ran across some videos of either db's or silly savage on youtube. about .95 at the time and i spent the next few days asking around to see if anyone had bf2 i could buy/have. ended up buying it on steam. took me 3 hours to download and install. took me another 5 hours to try to get it to run. ended up doing the whole thing over again and figuring out i had to open steam, uncheck a little box in options, then it ran fine. played for like 6 days straight then spent the next few days in the hospital.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
After I got my new PC last year I played way too many games not worth while.
When I had "spare time" before new releases I searched for Mods for CoH :O F, DoW
C
and BF2. As I always sort them after size PR was pretty much at the top of the list
Since then I wonder every day how I did miss it all those years... "shame"
Best FPS ever played!

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
back in 0.5 when the mod was on a PC Gamer (a magazine) demo disk. Played it for a bit but didn't get hooked
Then when 0.7 was out my mate from another game said how good it was. So i joined him mostly on thebattlearena 24/7 basrah server. Not looked back since.

Re: How Did You First Learn About Project Reality?
After playing HL2 INS mod I've became interested in the tactical and teamwork aspect of an FPS game. And those two seriously lacked in the game I was playing mainly because of players (mostly young boys with rage). Though I had some really good rounds with mature people using teamwork via VOIP and everything (note: I was only typing), but the server that had these people for some reason went down and other servers were just empty spam. So I started to search for a good game with lots of teamwork via youtube.
I found ARMA II, but the specs were too high for my PC and when I tried playing it SP I quickly got bored of low fps, bulky movement and stupid AI. But than I found PR.
At first it didn't seem so cool at all, maybe because most of the videos I watched were captured from rounds in Kashan Desert, graphics we're blocky (low quality video / low graphics settings) and I didn't care for viewrange and didn't even notice the more realistic approach of things (weapons and stuff, how they work in this game). After reading the manual a bit I played few rounds in Deployment without a mic. The rounds were terrible, I did shameful things (stealing soft skinned vehicles, onemaning them), got kicked from some squads. But I quickly adapted to the new situation, got my old mic working and started playing only in VOIP INF squads, hopefully being led by a good SL, learning from him and other squadmembers mistakes and successes. I also read a lot of guides and "how to?" guides in PR Forums, section: PR In-Game Tactics and Strategies.
This one round in Fools Road where I was a militiaman medic got me hooked. Patrolling with my sq through a dark forest, every bush and shadow seems like an enemy, and I really didn't know the difference between enemy troop looks and my teammates. Oh, but the rush of a battle was drug-like.
Btw, I've never played BF2, only bought it for PR.
