not sure that is the answer. as i have stated earlier i am not a fan of the program. that being said, i think disabling the basic comms of the game could be a very damaging move. new players, might be discuraged from the mod its self. and people with lower end pc's may be effected as well. ( and befor anyone says that they should just go out and by new hardwear, they should remember that these folks may not have a mommy or daddy that can afford to get a new pc every year.)

That's stupid & doesn't work. Point is Mumble should be used
alongside VoiP. It's been tried to disable ingame VoiP & seriously, the games were ****.
Avalon - I have a low end PC, yet I can still run mumble without any drop in FPS. If you have a worse PC than me, then seriously, get a new one. PCs from the 90's just aren't good enough!
For the record my PC is 2.2Ghz Processor, 3Gb of RAM, &..... a Nividia Geforce 8200 (OH YEAH!!!)

That Graphics Card is so old you can't even download Drivers for it anymore.
There's no reason that i've seen yet from anyone why not to use Mumble, just excuses why you don't use it when the real reason is you haven't even tried it.

herbie, i think that you must not have read my whole post. because you do not have problems with your hardwear dosnt mean that everyone will not. and try not to assume that everyone has the means to keep hardwear up to date, some folks out there simply may not have the resorses you have.
i never once said it was me, although i know of a number of players that have quite low end machines (lower than yours) that need everythink over clocked and kept in a mini fridge just to play.

I don't use it cos.. 3 voip programs is simply too many. Being squad leader while on TS (needed for my community), in game VOIP (squad & commander channels) and mumble is either just too confusing or annoying. If it were built in and ingame voip was disabled i'd be happy. But without all players on it and having a well used alternative built in... its just not worth the hassle.

When all servers will enforce mumble / mumble will be integrated in the game somehow, then we will see the new era.
I use it where i know ill find others using it.

I love mumble and use it. I always use mumble, every time I join a PR game I join the specific mumble server too, even tho there is no one on it. I think most people are just lazy, they feel comfortable by just using voip so they do not make and extra effort to learn mumble (which isn't that much of a big deal). I, for one, didn't get mumble until it was mandatory for an event on a server... but when you see how mumble can help gameplay, and how nice it is to be able to talk to a blue guy (and not think he is mentally retarded for following us and firing randomly when there was actually and enemy there

).
I am for mumble! and I'd hate to go back to no mumble.

Same here! It makes perfect sense if a server enforces all its players to use it, however the real goal should be its integration into the game. The squad leader radio is the best feature in mumble, without it gameplay could easily turn into a tactical desaster... if the whole team can`t communicate with its own squads and therefore set tactical priorities, the gameplay experience will suffer and suffer and continue suffering - which is a pity!!!

I think if Mumble give up on audio distance and keep the SL Radio then it would be the perfect VOIP.
That and enforcing that version of Mumble in PR.

If they have PCs worse than mine than we're very sorry about that but they seriously need new PCs to play modern games, it's pretty simple. Doesn't cost that much either. If you have a decent job you can afford to upgrade your PC.

I think Teamspeak 3 + BF2 plugin would suffice.
I like Teamspeak 3 because the girl talks to me :3
Oh, and TS3 has shiny buttons and pictures and just looks cleaner than Mumble.

That would just be TS...
The entire point of Mumble is the positional audio, that's what makes it great.

My main problem with it is that it takes away from realism for me.
How you might ask?
Well since each team can hear eachother, it doesn't make much sense if I'm playing as a US Marine with a squad of random pubbers and I hear the 'Chinese' enemy speaking in perfect English. I would likely mistake them for my own men and the big Charlie Foxtrot begins.
That is what kills Mumble for me.

Seriously there's no reason for not using Mumble, any "reason" people come up with is rectified straight away. Only reason people don't use mumble if because they are obviously too lazy to set up a programme that has a quick wizard to get everything set up.
@Sector How the hell is it an "Invasion of Privacy" and what are these stories of "Mumble Abuse".... I use it all the time & nothing has happened that I'd consider "Abuse".
Quit trolling & use Mumble.

Most importantly of all I would still consider it to be an invasion of my privacy and I have just got to say that hearing stories of mumble abuse really makes me glad to tick NO on the would you like to install invasion of privacy software [mumble] on your computer?
In short I already communicate with those that I wish to (on TS3 and VOIP), for the rest I have a firewall...
What servers have you been on that require mumble use? As far as I know, there hasn't been a mumble-only server since RealityTeamwork died.

As Mongol said - Team channels. Nearly every server uses them now, certainly the ones with the highest levels of mumble use do.

To get the positional thing to work do this...
If you run PR as administrator you'll need to
run mumble as administrator. If you
dont run PR as administrator you'
must not run mumble as administrator.

Its like exercising, or not smoking, or doing your homework. Its good for you. If you are running three tanks in a squad, there is no more confusion on whose driver is talking.
If you are subtle about suggesting it, people might pick it up. If you are like, this is awesome try it, some people get defensive and feel patronized, or will just try to in order to blast it, although there is nothing to blast. (except for the fact that many servers are indeed devoid of mumblers).

With alot of people though, that "wish" is every player on their team, when they need. Thats what PR is all about, communication and teamwork. And TS3 and VoIP dont allow for that "wish", but each to their own.
