Hello Strategos,
We post our rules here:
=HOG=: PR Server Rules and we ask that all players check them out before playing on our server, that way, you know what the rules are and can avoid situations like today. The admin did what he was supposed to do.
PR has no way of tracking people that have been warned about rule violations, so we cant do that as we would spend our time warning the SAME people over and over.
Most seasoned players know to go to the servers rule page and learn them, it will provide a much better game for you.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.
I do understand that knowing a server's rules is important. But I don't think that's the point here. The point is that in some cases even the most conscientious player will run into a situation where they might break a rule by accident, especially in the heat of the battle. You can know the rules by heart and still fall into that trap. That's what warnings are there for, to help players get back on track. Kicking someone on their first minor offense, an accidental one moreso, only serves to produce frustration and drama.
You say that it's hard to track warnings against players, but I just don't see it. Just take another look at my case: How hard could it have possibly been to warn me and then just wait for 30 seconds to see if I joined a squad by then? This might be different with more complicated offenses, but for something as minor and as easy to check as whether or not someone is playing in a squad there's literally no reason not to issue a warning before kicking them.
I think what some of your admins don't seem to realize is that, with HOG being as popular as it is, a kick can often be equal to a 10- to 30-minute timeout. The punishment should always match the offense. This one absolutely didn't.

[16:11 TEAM 1 ] Jevski: !s squad
[16:11 TEAM 1 ] Jevski: !s squad
[16:12 TEAM 1 ] Jevski: !s squad
[16:12 TEAM 1 ] Jevski: !k strat squad
[16:13 TEAM 1 ] Jevski: !k tegos squad
There where several warnings.....
If I may butt in here. Its not only about tracking warnings for a particular player within a 3 minute timeframe, but when admins have to warn then kick the same player over and over and over for the same offenses over a couple of days it gets tedious.
A couple of days ago, I kicked someone for being on fortress(mutttrah) He of course came back and started to complain. Why wasnt he warned etc. and he said he knew the rules since he had been playing on our server for 6 years. But how come he then went into fortress??
Same with squad less players. Ive even talked to a specific guy, told him to join a sqd, because I had kicked him like 6 times over 2 days for this. And he still runs around squadless. How am I to keep track of a player that has been warned days ago, either by me or another admin, then a week later again. We have many different players, and I really cant remember of the 100 of those who I warned at which given time for which violation of what rule. So yes, when some one regular I know plays often on our server for years, then I dont think I should warn them. And no, I dont just kick someone for being sqdless, I do wait for several minutes before I act.
Also on a complete different note, you want the admins to step up, to dedicate more of their gaming time to admin. I dont think its wrong of us to ask the same of the players, both with regards to the rules, but also to take responsibility - You said you left the squad since you're not apt at leading, then learn...step up and take some responsibility for the teamplay on the server instead of just playing musical chairs with the SL position.
Admins almost lead every round, and doing that while being admin is stressful, So STEP UP and help the admins with at least taking of some of the load.

Why not just get a squadless kick script?

I appreciate the comment, Jevski. I do understand that admining can be a very stressful job and issuing warnings would certainly increase the workload. But seeing how you used that global warning anyway, why not issue a player-specific one instead? I didn't even realize that "!s" message was manually invoked. Up to this point I thought the "squad" message was automatically broadcast every few minutes on your server. I am sure I am not the only one who made that mistake.
So why not "!w" players instead? That's a surefire way to get their attention. Having a server-wide message up there that is sure to disappear within 1 second doesn't count as an appropriate warning in my eyes. And seeing how there's not much difference in the effort needed to type that "!s" message three times and warning specific players I don't see any reason not to use "!w" instead.
As far as stepping up is concerned: Not everyone is squadleader material. I'd rather do the musical chair act than being a shitty SL on a map I don't know well enough.

Because then I have to do a !w for every player thats not in a squad. And thrust me, no its not a sure way. Not even a kick is. I would say that players dont react to around 70-80% of warnings. Hence a kick is just the fastest way to solve the problem.
To paraphrase Stalin "A kick solves all problems. No player no problem.

Allright, first of all I want to say that I had a couple of great rounds on HOG lately, especially yesterday.
But I saw one thing yesterday which really didn't seem to be right.
One of the admins kicked a guy with a reason that really shouldn't be brought up in any way.
Well now I don't know the background, like if that was meant to be a joke or something but this is unnacceptable.
Pls keep an eye on shit like this. It really doesn't help the reputation.

This one time I was playing a pilot in an admins squad flew from RU main in Beirut and dropped a whole squad off who didnt even want to be there, they got wiped then he lost the helicopter. He didn't even get a warning and I got kicked for complaining about it. gg, exactly what you expect from hog.

He was kicked for saying those exact words....we type in the words he says so in a month when he appeals we will know why. Not a joke, just a record. It was meant to be a ban but i messed that up...We have a well known reputation for banning racists...

Why is it so hard to write on a piece of paper or write in the forums the player's mistake? Or if you have to log it by in this way why is it so hard to say "!k reapers racism"? You're not doing yourself any favours. Where is the logic for this if you're kicking and banning people for saying the word themselves?
Stop taking peoples' feedback as personal attacks and sort your ship out. It's getting tiresome for everyone.

We have this under control, thanks for your input but we have a system that works really well for years and years.
thanks!

its been a popular server, arguably the top server for more than 7 years. You have a grudge, we get that. If it bothers you so much you should play somewhere else, thats why there are other servers out there.

HOG server has been a great server since I began PR 5+ years ago! Ahh I can remember when it was HOG 24/7 Muttrah. Today it has evolved into a mixed maps server that caters to its community. The majority of the gamers on HOG are adult-age, or mature players.
The current North American server alternatives are almost unplayable -- the constant mumble spamming, chat spamming and general immaturity displayed now resembles the experience I had playing COD on Xbox...
I will continue to connect to HOG and only HOG. I implore anyone reading this to try HOG if you are tired of little kids ruining your experience.

Lol. Politics.
I next time I read one of these threads I'll bring popcorn. A lot of the complaints are here are flamers or ban appeals.
My kudos to the guise who ran this server even after the other US servers went dark and went on to expand it, including maps that they had no real interest in, to keep the dwindled player-base happy.
The admins aren't ODed on Mountain-dew either, so the chance of contracting rabies from a rabid admin is low.
PR made a come-back and I get to play on a full server. Nice. Thanks.
Stay in school kids!

Do you guys still have active late night admins? I usually play late night and I rarely see admins on at these times.

We try and have admins on quite frequently, that's why we had EU admins NA admins and SA admins too. We're trying to maintain coverage in most peak times.

Very well said. I agree 100%.
