It's been a while since I've been on these forums, but recently school is getting less stressy so I decided to go and work on a model again (beretta 9000 tutorial), I'll definitly finish this. This is just to learn how to model, not really looking to implement it in any game.. Though I might just give that a shot sometime. I'll be planning to texture it aswell as soon as it's done. It'll be fun to learn how to do that.

let me know what you think so far :)
BTW. dont mind that magazine showing through the gun, that's inside the gun and not poking trough the gun :P .. I think it has to do with the distance the screenshot was taken

BTW. read something about Z-fighting whilst going trough this thread, I'm thinking that that is what's occuring with the magazine? Anyhoo, I reckon you guys would normally attach those loose objects wouldnt you? (such as the trigger, magazine and the little button(s) -and perhaps even the barrel, not that far in the tut. yet to see if he's gonna do that-). But I'm pretty sure that's done to do animations on 'em.. At least for the barrel, magazine and trigger.

-little update
Don't wanna spam 2 posts after one another so I thought I'd just show the end result in the same post. There are some smoothing errors (but you can't really see them here :P ). Tri-count is around 2250. I'm very pleased with it, I think it looks good and I learned a lot from modelling it. Next step would be to texture/skin it :) .. Or maybe make more models :P

PS. Let me know if you wanna see some edged faces etc.

Oh so thats how people do references in 3d modelling. Neat.

pretty nice Samo, the m16a4 would make for a nice change between usmc kits.
the other one is a m4a1 if not mistaken?

Nice :) But can you post a wireframe / edged faces close up of what's going on in this area?:

Difference between M4 and M4A1 very small.I also prepare for ArmA3 and another project on Unreal Engine, there they will be used both as M4 and M4A1.Models very "bad" for BF2 engine cuz have a lot of float objects.

Sure.

M4/M4A1 - almost 8000tris
M16A4 - almost 10000tris(1337 railz goddamn :-D )

Holy **** that's a lot of tri's. I guess more recent games can have a lot more details etc (not that I know what the norm is or anything), because those look really good :) .
I'm also planning on making an assault rifle or something next (like the M4 or something) + nice to see people are still posting in this thread :) (I've read through the whole thread allready :p )

It's not high-poly yet,but already not low-poly .
For my collection - it's allright, maybe I make it a bit detailed. Also some tris can be baked on lowpoly.Picatinny rails can be hidden via covers.General problem, why they got so much tri-count - rails and holes on fore-end.M4 got 2500 tris,M16 - 5000.It's much more, that any other detail.Maybe a bit rich barrel,12 sides.
Also good LOD optimization can make a lot.

This has probably been posted in this thread somewhere, but I have heard of a handgun modelling tutorial that is supposed to be legendary. It covers modelling, texturing, etc. Does anyone have the link or even know what I am talking about?

Edit: found it
