Has been discussed over and over in suggestion threads ;

And yeah, I think the British knife is a bayonet. If the JSDF uses bayonet, sure put them in.

Lol at the Mecha, we could make one if only we had those lines of code from BF2142! :-P

Discussed and decided without solid proof of either position.

Technically the anime is Gasaraki ;) The Mechas there are significantly much smaller than the "Mobile Suits" from Gundam Wing. Another good anime with good designs is Full Metal Panic that even introduces a Soviet-made mecha.

There was one mod called: Mech Tactical Simulation.
MTS - Mech Tactical Simulation mod for Battlefield 2 - Mod DB
Probably the first BF2 mod in having mechas working. I did not download and tried it so I have zero clues if it has a good animation effect or not. I show this as an example that adding mechas to BF2 engine is (So far I see it) possible. Although this is PR... :p We won't be seeing mechas IRL for still a while so the same can be expected from PR. :D

Anyway... I have one reminder for when you guys get working on maps (If you do). I've read on the Wikipedia article of the Type 90 MBT, before it was edited, that there were regulations on Japan about the circulation of heavy vehicles such as the Type 90. As fas as I remember the Type 90 is not allowed to circulate anywhere in Japan except for the Island of Hokkaido.
At least that's what the article used to say... Another source is this blogger: Flavcorn: best main battle tanks?
Japan's Type 10 is much lighter (40-48 tons) than South Korea's XK2 (55 tons) due to Japan's road regulations. I'm wondering if the lighter weight = less armor or = special materials that are stronger & lighter.
I believe that's one of the reasons why the Type 10 was developed in the first place so that it would be able to drive trough Japanese roads.
BTW... found a couple of Type 10 pics: Image

It's kinda hard to get pictures of high quality of the Type 10 =/

That's strange. Every August there's a demonstration put on near Mt. Fuji with plenty of Type 90s. Surely they didn't airlift them all from Hokkaidou.

JSDF-soldier Uniform sounds a bit ambiguous about what geometries need reskinning/are done reskinning.
Another odd non-realistic thing in a "realism" mod.....all soldiers look the same. You don't really see SF running around in ball caps do you? PMCs yes, but most SF I've seen wear some kind of headgear that's worthy of stopping shrapnel...

There's a misunderstanding about what I said about uniforms ;

I'm not saying that they should have different uniforms by classes, i'm pointing out that BF2 wise, the textures for each KIT GEOMETRIES are separate so you'd need to list and make each of those textures for each geometries. (Medic has a medibag on his back, meaning a texture different from the Officer or the Engineer who have no medibag but a jungle hat/bert and w/e)
However, i'm not sure about the AT kit because looking at it, it just looks like a Rifleman geometry with a sort of *child* SRAW/Eryx/etc stickied to his back. :-P

I know I may sound like an annoying ******* here, but if you want this to get in PR, you need to respect standard specifications that oher factions follow unless you have solid proof that this army has specific differences that should be implemented because they're obvious and vital for realism.
From what I have read in those threads I posted, the answer by MOD's and DEV's were commonly : Resuggestion, only few men are issued pistols on the BF, check the *** thread.
Unless you have solid proof that every JSDF soldier is issued a pistol unlike other armies, Pistol should be issued only to following kits : Pilot, Sniper and Officer.
Bear in mind I don't want to be an ***, I'm suggesting that the faction must follow PR standards if it want's to be included in PR in the end. Also, i'm sure with enough management, help and will, this faction will make it into Project Reality, wheter it be later or sooner than PR 1.0. Many believed that the CF, the Talies and the RF wouldn't make it into PR ; they're being proved wrong. Those that believed that Germans, Dutch, Norwegians, Polish, Australians, and IDF wouldn't launch and work they way into PR, that they were useless and that they're just adding too many factions, are being proved wrong. The JSDF has realistic features of interest with the current fictionnal war in East-asia. I'm sure it has as much chances of seeing the day as the South Koreans and North Koreans, wich would be also involved in a possible east-asian war against/with China/NATO. ;)

Ah, I see. I'm not very computer literate with all the "geometries" and "parents". I honestly believe PC gaming should be plug and play, none of this constant tweaking an upgrading (Flight Sim X is a royal pain just to play with the amount of tweaking required just to get the damn thing to play).

As far as sidearms, it appears it is indeed only the officers.

As for the A-T kit, the A-T gunner carries a Type 89:

But I don't know why that other guy has a 249 AND an 89.

All other Light AT kits are given an Assault-rifle equipped with a medium range Scope but if i'm not mistaken, no grenades. (M16+ACOG, QBZ+Scope, G3A3+Scope, L85+Scope, etc...)
All other Grenadier kits are given an Assault-rifle equipped with a medium range scope and a UGL slot with 9 HE grenades and 3 smoke grenades, again, if i'm not mistaken. (M16/4+ACOG+UGL, QBZ+Scope+UGL, L85+Scope+UGL... etc)

Source :
Play the game?
but anyway the guide

Also... retarded question but, which name is right, JSDF or JGSDF? If the later is wrong, can a MOD please fix the topic title?

JSDF is the Self-Defense Forces in general (自衛隊- jieitai)
JGSDF is Ground Self-Defense Force (陸上自衛隊- rikujou jieitai
JASDF is Air Self-Defense Force (航空自衛隊- koukuu jieitai)
JMSDF is Maritime Self-Defense Force (海上自衛隊- kaijou jieitai)

;)

The IDF force does not have a scope on their grenadier kit.

As far as economic concerns, If anyone wanted to cripple ASEAN economy they probably will have to attack japan first. One of the most important shipping lanes in Asia is near Malaysia/Indonesia/Sindapore. A lot of Japanese companies build factories in Malaysia here to save cost and such. Not just in Malaysia. A war in Japan will affect not just malaysia but also the rest of south east asia region. Cripple Japan and you cripple ASEAN. I think.

I was thinking to make the Kawasaki OH-1 Ninja for this mod. If there is any progress I will post a WIP thread. I am looking forward to this.
