much better those rerecordings, apart from the retreat one. don't forget you can slightly alter the words used to reflect british army usage rather than yanks.

"Lads, time to retreat!"

edit : oops, missed the first one, that was worded fine, the second one was cringeworthy though. get used to the mic too, so it's not trying to distort when you are shouting.

Those would be tactical withdrawals

nice try skijrt, but...
try it again, and then, listen to the original english voiceovers first and try to get theyr stress. imagine the real life situation before each sentence and try to get in this mood.

and, on the technical side, your mic do oversteer alot, or its your amplifier.

try to reduce the recording volume drasticly and listen if you get clear recordings. if this doesnt help, try to stay more away from the mic.

you would be correct in saying this.

Well, I took a crack at it... didn't follow the guidelines... but I have over twenty samples in here. For grunt or squad leader, depending on whatever you would desire. Take a look:

Hope it's adequate! I tried to go for military slang, so if there are any Englishmen in here, please tell me if I went a little overboard... lol.

And in terms of phrases to use - be careful of over using 'slang' as people will spam it/get bored of it!

I might write a suggested list of commands....

nice one omikron! and nice one mav too!

but two things:

@ omikron

is there a chance to not use your headset-mic? this mic is cutting the upper frequencies, so it sounds alway a little bit like a phonecall. but we need clear recordings for the non_filtered voiceovers...
so, pls try to get an other mic and do again some samples.
independently of that, there is a great potential!
and if its british enough must say someone alse. for a german, it sounds great british! ;)

@ mav

any chance to get the dry samples? to judge them right, i need no filters and such, only a clear voice. :)

thnx

anyone more?

if you listen to the files in record.rar, then you will determine a cut on the lower frequencies of all samples excl. the "move" one. thats the only one that sounds something like your natural voice (and that is what i need.. ;) ), but there is a bit of oversteer in it. either you have to lower your amplifier settings, or do it with a little more distance to your mic.
so, pls try again, without any distortion and with all the frequencies that your voice has.. ;)
thnx! :)

Not quite sure if I can get a new mic anytime soon... sorry.

How exactly was my accent? Could you tell me what exactly I did wrong with it? Remember that these are just auditionary audio files, but I think my accent sounds a little off kilter. One of my English buddies in Airborne sampled some of these, he said they're fine... he said it has much less posh than the SAS in SF.

And the "beans and bullets" ****... I asked him about that and he said it sounded retarded... so... don't listen to it... ugh.

EDIT: LOL at the anal thing.

bearing in mind i'm trying to make this and screaming abuse whilst watching Rooney going off with a red card, hopefully this goes someway to display the urgency required in a voice sample where you are trying to warn your mates a grenade is about to go off.

Anyone who has got this far into the thread and needs to know what sort of mic will produce decent voice samples and increase their ingame enjoyment, check these out :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LABTEC-MONO-331-P ... dZViewItem

that is the headset I use under closed Sony headphones the microphone is noise reducing and you can get pretty good quality out of it consider the usage and price £8

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LABTEC-AXIS-521-C ... dZViewItem

haven't tried that one for fit, but it has the same microphone technology and costs £6

here is an idea for the microphone problem:

all the actors buy this cheap condensor mic with USB plug (!) together. then the first actor record his part, send the mic to the next actor, wich is recording his part, sending the mic to the next actor.. and so on. if all recordings are done with a decent quality, the last actor sells the mic at ebay and the money is divided on all actors. so, there will be a minimal money to spend for each actor and PR can get the brit. voiceovers in a better quality then everyone use his own cheap headset mic.. ;)

Its not so much the mic, but the Sound card that will casue a difference in quality.

Nice sounds btw Mav :D

sorry jellybelly, but it IS the mic!
almost all headset microphones cut the frequencys cause they "think" you want never use high and low frequencys for VoIP wich are these mic´s designed for.

and if they will buy the mic i recommend above, then the soundcard doesnt matter, cuase the mic is sending the recordet signal direkt via USB, without using your soundcard.

I have 3 mics. one is the labtec noise reducing one, another is a cheap background one that gives sounds too tinny that need to be played with afterwards, then a normal desk mic that always ends up too close to my speakers and squeals.

I'd like to get access to EFX packs background sounds at some point to try and see what I can do with radio chatter where action is going on in the background.

ie. Squadleader makes request for ammo, wen commanders response comes in there is background of loaders and firers going on about their job, shouting out orders, right in the background. The response from commander to squadleader confirming a target is being aimed and fired at is made after arty crews have been told where to fire and are starting to carry out the orders, thereby getting some authentic background noise in.

The odd command could have the audio sample of a chopper in the background flying over, vehicle passing by, an explosion or small arms fire going off. As british commander is highly likely to be in the field with the lads, just behind or to side of them, sounds of English orders, weapons fire, etc would be audible in the background some of the time.

Hence why there is a use for either a secondary non-noise reducing mic, or simply an audio mixer where someone mixes several tracks in together, playing with equiliser and volume controls.

authenticity has to be the key, so some of the voice overs containing battle noise would work out nicely, just not all, as on a quiet map it could get cringeworthy.

listen to this MrD:

need reinforcements original no filter

this is the original non filtered file that is used for what you hear, when you stand beside your mate shouting that out.

this is the quality i need to be ALL voiceovers that the actors are recording.

these files will also be ingame, as the "real" voice files!

and then there will be the radio chatter files that will sound like this:

need reinforcements filter

this is the sound everyone will hear over the radio.

the background noise idea is a good one for the atmosphere, but not for the comprehensibility ingame. i have tried out this file ingame and i did remove the background noise for the needed comprehensibility.
however, first of all, we need the clear real voice recordings with the best possible quality, regardless what we have to do with them, if filtered or not.

:)

oh, I will proivide clean samples, but also in spare time make up some colourful ones IN ADDITION (and that doesn't mean swearing) as I don't know whether you guys have the time to explore options. you never know, something interesting might come out.

Plus, whilst I'm ftping them up, any chance of getting ftp access to the EFX pack for restricted use as I am going to spend some time creating fan movies, using ingame footage, plus animations for speech and multi track audio integration. These will get released back into the community plus will serve as promotion for the game, by spreading it under the vBF2 communities grubby paws.

as for the upcoming EFX pack (there are some little internal problems to buy this, we consider to buy a similar sfx pack that has no payment problems with US people, as the french one has), i dont know about the rights to share the sounds. but i think we will find a way to help you.
