Re: Project Reality v0.9 Preload and Trailer
By the way, does PR 0.87 HAVE to be removed before installing 0.9?
Or will 0.9 erase 0.87 as it installs?

Re: Project Reality v0.9 Preload and Trailer
Hi, I'm new to PR (I've had BF2 since launch in 2005, just recently got back into playing it).
Anyway, I'm wondering what the point is to a preload for a MOD? The only reason companies like VALVe do preloads is because they are bound by their publisher to a street date and can't have the game playable before then.
I assume PR has no such publisher restrictions, being a MOD and all. So is it just to get people excited or is there a legit reason to not just fully release the MOD now?

It saves a massive rush and stretch on bandwidth on release day. On Friday the rest of the mirrors will be released, but thousands of people will already have downloaded and just need the password. This allows those that dont yet have it, able to download it from servers that arent overloaded already and hopefully save this website slowing to a crawl.

It also shortens server downtime as there isn't a slow trickle of players joining as they download and install it, leaving a host of empty or barely populated servers for a couple of days. People can switch from 0.87 to 0.9 in moments and start playing again.

If you change your computer time while viewing the Password countdown and set it to saturday for example, it goes 00:00:00 in red, but no password appears, haha
.
I guess they've thought about that one.
