M16A2 with Reflex/Aimpoint is my favorite assault rifle in the game.
But I also use single shots only. That's much more effective (even at close distance) than burst.

Burst is only good for shooting without using your sights at very, very close distances.

Consider myself good with burst mode and can get kills out to 55m with it. Takes some getting used to, but the trick is to try and fight the recoil ever so slightly to keep the barrel steady. Give it some practices when your waiting around on the carrier.

Its actually also quite damn good for suppressive fire in PR. Suppressive fire does actually work in PR (if your opponent doesn't have a LMG), where you can scare enemy into thinking they are taking fire from several soldiers. A squad mate and myself managed to suppress about 9 or 10 Chinese dudes at the Temple flag on Qwai, both of us getting liberal with the burst function.

Honestly, I just noticed this topic, which is already up to page 5 with my current settings. And I'm not really interested in reading all pages until I'm sure of one thing: Is this debate regarding burst mode in PR only, or for actual military weaponry?

If the debate is in regards to PR only, I'll quietly step back out and avoid the topic. PR debates usually tend to rely more on programming code, engine limitations, etc and not so much on reality. But if the topic is related to actual combat weaponry, I'd be happy to provide feedback based on actual military function.

This is about 3 round burst in PR.

Together with iron sights 3-round bursts are super effective att close range since it limits you to not holding down the trigger and loosing accuracy.

It sucks in PR because you are forced to fire all three rounds, and thus lose accuracy.

Its about burst in PR, and how it compares to other fire modes. From my understanding semi-auto is almost always used in RL, especially by regular infantry. Compared to PR where everyone uses auto/burst in cqb just because its relatively easy to control and aim with a mouse, and the action is a lot quicker.

I don't like burst at all (pretty much never use it) and I don't like full auto that much outside of five meters or so. You burn ammo quickly and you get more precision firing in semi. I also don't like the delay when firing repeatedly in burst.

The possible exception to that rule is the AK-74, which I like in full auto because you get low recoil, very open irons, and a reasonable rate of fire.

Useless compared to what? Sure, I'd take an M4 with full auto instead of an M16 with burst, but I'd much rather take the M16 with burst than the G3 with full auto when it comes to CQB.

G3 fullauto murders when rounds do hit(I hope 1.0v deviation will fix that) since it downs in two shots.

Yes. One of my favorite rifles. Let er' settle..1-2 taps and he be down Holmes. The deviation fixes will settle arguments much quicker.

What is the point of this discussion anyways? Regardless of its effectiveness, three-round-burst is here to stay for as long as the US military still uses three-round-burst weaponry.

Bf2 engine deviation messes things up with the burst making the bullets go in odd patterns they likely wouldn't in real life when fired that way the recoil from the M16 generally makes the bullets sway up or left in right from vids i've seen of people firing a M16 on burst. However in PR the bullets make roughly a V pattern which is wacked in itself.

Oh c'mon. Burst is awesome and really accurate, maybe it sucks in a close quarters(like really close), but on a medium distance - it's Godlike. Especially with an Aimpoint, especially when fighting against insurgents.

Just me or does the 3rd shot on three round burst always like to go in a different direction than the two before it?
