Re: How did you find PR

I was following a british forces mod and they saw PR and started to look to joining them, and I came too.
I actually think it might have been some of the original devs for PR. It had only entered a really basic phase before they stopped. Its been around 11 years so B barely remember.[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:What mod was that, Rabbit? Don't think I've heard of a British Forces mod for BF2 before.

Anyway...
I used to be active on the totalbf2 and bf2 stats forums back in the day. Made friends with a guy, he showed me PR in it's infancy(.2 I think) I didn't like it much but then it happened; .5 Basrah Came and it was Glorious. I spent 10K+ Hours on that map on that version of PR. Been here ever since. Although not as much as I used too. To this day I still meet .5 veterans and we reminisce about the good ol' days of PR.
I see another old timer like myself. I didnt know you ran the site, how much has PR changed from the original vision? Whatever happened to all the old mod teams like the sandbox/aix/poe crew? I still keep in contact with some of my buddies from the tbf2 and bf2s forums and a few of them got jobs in the industry. I know one who is working on his own FPS and is dead set on recapturing the glory days of PR.Rico wrote:Ahh my old stomping grounds - Totalfbf2.com that I ran with GameWizard. We set up that site in 2004! PR was already in planning stages back then with Requiem at the helm (some 13 years ago). Of course, running the BF2 site I knew every mod and news piece so ran an interview with him about PR's plans. I think we showed a British quad bike render as well. Who knew that after all these years it'd be where it is today. Wonder what he is up to now.
It's black and white since the first release which was actually called Project Reality Mini Mod 0.1.obpmgmua wrote:I see another old timer like myself. I remember the minimod days, when it was just a couple dozen megabytesRico wrote:It's black and white since the first release which was actually called Project Reality Mini Mod 0.1.
I meant how far did PR stray from the original vision laid out by the founders?- Kill & Hit Indicator removed
- Weapons Damage increased
- Reticles removed
- Parachutes removed
- Adjusted Physics of Vehicles and Characters
Tell me you long for the days of A-10s and T-62s on basrah.Of course as models and maps started to get added it slowly evolved over the years. For a long time the UAV trailer was on maps still. Speaking of which, many maps have come and gone! I miss the old days of infantry combat on Ghost Train as it has some cool choke points.
Didn't they invent the dome of death? I think PR implemented DOD because of people(like myself) driving spawn cars into US main and raping the pads and runways with rpgs. Ah the good ol' days.As for PoE and the like, I've no idea what became of them. I haven't really kept in contact with anyone from back in the day and couldn't play the game.
TBH I never liked escort. Too easy to troll.Wonder if Escort game mode will ever get added back in, if not only used in events or something..
Squad Devs are old PR Devs, they didn't rip them off they just wanted to be able to work on a more advanced engine and do things that BF2 won't let them do.Hector19 wrote:I own squad and during the free weekend somebody was comparing squad to project reality and the entire server was arguing with him. So I decided to try it out and project reality is better it's just more fun than squad. Squad may be more advanced but it's not as good. Project reality has more variety of content but that's not what makes it better to me. It's just a better product. I can't believe how the squad developers tried to rip you off and failed![]()
Wow really? I had no idea I thought the squad devs saw a good idea and copied it. And to tell you the truth they did a poor job at it._Fizzco_ wrote:Squad Devs are old PR Devs, they didn't rip them off they just wanted to be able to work on a more advanced engine and do things that BF2 won't let them do.
