dont say things you dont know...'[R-COM wrote:Wilkinson;957020']Driving boats as this is impossible with the BF2 Engine.
With the 2142 Engine is a different story![]()
there is a boat in BF2, its called the RHIB... and there are a few mods out there with large drivable boats such as the Battleships and BF Pirates 2 mods... Its just not done with large high poly objects like carriers as they are split into multiple bits as there poly count is too high to have them as a single object and they would offer nothing to game play if you could drive them apart from some muppet would just ground it on the beach of Oman or something. I can see it now, vBF2, Gulf of Oman, some muppet just grounds the carrier on the beach next to a flag, jumps off the end, gets out his shute and walks onto the flag.
but anyways, looking good smeg

So would saying "Will the elevators work" be the equivalent of "Does it have cup holders?"Dr2B Rudd wrote:that's the equivalent of going to see Michael Angelo's 'David' and saying "does it dispense drinks?"

Well no, technically you can make a triggerable elevator like on Iron Gator, and it works alright. It's not as crazy as wanting to make this static be a vehicle.Tirak wrote:So would saying "Will the elevators work" be the equivalent of "Does it have cup holders?"

lol you compare a WIP carrier to one of the greatest artistic pieces of all timeDr2B Rudd wrote:that's the equivalent of going to see Michael Angelo's 'David' and saying "does it dispense drinks?"
I dont see why you couldnt code it like a giant boat like the pt boat thats already in engine?

Re: [Static] HMS Ocean [WIP]
Something to do with collision meshes, you can test this by standing in the back of an open back supply truck and seeing what happens when it starts driving, people standing on it would die and the vehicles wouldn't fare much better either. That's pretty much the reason we can't have more then 8 people in a vehicle.eenis wrote:I dont see why you couldnt code it like a giant boat like the pt boat thats already in engine?
Anyway, there's no real need to sail the thing, for one a ship such as this would be anchored pretty far away from the shore (probably further away then it will be in game cos of map size limitations), it'd be kinda silly to make it destructible, and there would be next to no way of begin able to tell if the water was deep enough to sail in when you moved it. Anyway to cut it short it's a bit unnecessary; unless we had maps a few hundred kilometres squared, a few thousand players, and the ship being destructible in which case there would be some tactical advantage in moving it.

Hmm i want to say ive jumped on vehicles and if they go slow you could stay on but i cant really remember. And i bet it would get really buggy if you had helicopters on the deck while trying to move, my question was more of a curiosity then anything else, thanks for being so understanding!

Loving the progress Smeg, thought you might like to know what the ocean is up 2 atm, and there is a really good pic to go with it.

I thought it was possible because of the Titan Moving? But yeah the whole Grounding carrier thing makes sense. Sorry for my Nubbish ways.[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:dont say things you dont know...

Re: [Static] HMS Ocean [WIP]
I'm sure it's possible to make it a vehicle if you really wanted to, but even if it was, would it be possible to even have other vehicles placed on it in the BF 2 engine? I know you can feasibly do that with players, and it would be pointless with our sized maps, but would it be possible in other words?

I mean that the commander can move it though his battlescreen. IIRC in 2142 the commander clikcs a button, and clicks somewhere on the map. Also 2142 titans are limited to where they go, if you could do this on the carrier then nobody could beach it (lets say x distance from shore)
