Yeah, I dulled everything up a bit because I had noticed the phone was a bit bright, I'll fix the tape.
I guess I could to that with the phone, but I'm starting to feel bad for coalition forces already. If I'm driving around looking at this thing from a bit off, you can barely tell it's there when the IEDs in the dirt, not that's not even when the IED is in a rock or bush.

I will admit this will suck for the Coalition, so maybe we can limit to one limited kit at the main base of insurgents?

Well it's going to be a pickup kit anyway. I'm firguring it will be like anti-air, where there are very few of them in general. But that's all up to the mappers (which I guess could include me, but I just do what the devs will be happy with. I'm such a tool, oh well, I like helping).

If this gets in, I'll figure out the BF2 Editor, so that I can edit it and put down lilke 50 of these things and set off under a tank to see how high it goes

Sorry, you won't be able to do that. You can put as many of the kits as you want on the map, but it won't help. C4, IEDs and my IED all have a little part of the tweaker file that sets a maximum amount of them in the "world" (like with AT mines, get as many as you want, but old ones will start to disappear when you're setting new ones).
If you want me to, I could just make you a little present that we need an explosion with the force of a massive nuclear bomb, but the damage of say my IED as is. Anyway...

To solve the phone box on top being seen, why not do something like when its placed in the ground the phone rests on the ground in the direction you are facing

Well, if I try to move the phone at all, except a little bit, it won't be look because I have the model set up so that the buttom of the artillery shell is buried in the dirt (as in the IED is buried at an angle).

I don't mean changing the actual model, but tilting it so that the ingame tilt makes it so the phone rests against the ground.

That involves changing the model, unless I'm missing out on something with the BFEditor (possible, I hate that thing, I try to use it as little as possible)

You don't have to change the model, just rotate the pivot point in max.

I think it just looks like rusty metal, but maybe some spots on it can be changed to the original color of the shell, to simulate that it is not completely rusty yet.

Well it is supposed to be completey rust and dust, the idea is that thing has been buried in some Insurgent cache for a couple weeks.
And Tupla, my definition of changing a model is having to do anything in Max.

Anyway, updates will continue as I plan to follow Rhino's advice. I just have to figure out what I'm going to do.

Yeah, but the problem is that it doesnt really look like rust or dirt. To me it looks like wood.

EOD what you should try and do (idk not know if this is workable so that it looks decent) but make a bump map of the object with small areas that extrude a bit (or looks like it) with rust and then add a bit of color since it will not rust over totally in just a few weeks/months it will still have a bit of paint on it. should hopefully give it more of a depth feel and then try and make the rims at the bottom less complete (imagine that they have been blunted a bit or something because they are to "perfect" at the moment)

I have a bump map for it; however, I don't want to make the bumps to deep or it starts to look bad. If you get closer to it you can see the bumps.
And this, like regular IED, can be blown up after 1000 hitpoints (people take 100 hitpoints).

You might wanna make atleast some parts of it look metallic so people can guess that that redish color is rust. Or try to make it look a bit more like rust :p

I actually did start with a rusted metal picture for the base, but then I put dust, dirt, etc. on it.
