As for the OP, I still think that mid popular servers have a wide population of mics. This thread is indeed useless - misinformation.pr0Life wrote:I almost made a list of reasons why I don't run Mumble but I'll stick to some reasons why you might not hear people:
And then, even if you get everyone to use their mics, you might regret it.
- Playing at night and I don't want to wake people. Even if I try to stay quiet, if I am also using headphones too, I end up shouting without realizing it.
Make an effort not to, I learned it the hard way.- I'm mic shy, even though I am not shy in person.
So was I, got over it after 2 weeks.- It took a while for me to figure out how to connect my mic to my computer. It's not easy in Windows. I have a computer science degree and a masters in user interface design and it took a while to figure out how to get my USB mic to not conflict with the input on my SoundBlaster card and my motherboard.
Most people don't get those kind of issues when connecting a mic for the first time. Irrelevant.- Sometimes I'm tired and don't want to talk.
Me neither, but people show it without fear of being slacked. Heck, usually when I'm tired I go play INS with minor roles. You really don't have to say much and you can pinpoint most of the enemy's location through team chat if you wish.- Some people don't speak English well. For instance, when I go on to a Chinese server, I sort of understand (Mandarin), but I don't know the word for mic, and trying to tell SL that is even harder. Try playing there or perhaps on the Brazilian server if your Mandarin is too good.
Why the hell are you in those servers in the first place?!If you are going to kick someone, pls at least give them time to realize you're a mic only squad and if you have to kick, pls apologize directly to them over typing. (they may have turned off VOIP to avoid annoying chatty people)
- Mic may be tuned improperly and is inaudible or painful.
Fix it, like we all do.- Then you have the problem of radio protocol and crowding the line. I prefer people type because I don't always catch what was said or it was said in an accent. Or they need to go to Toastmasters and learn how to talk.
Sometimes it happens, intervene by clearing comms or ask to repeat.- Some of your squadmates might turn out to be women or children. I don't like the idea of children playing Project Reality and besides I don't want any filthy urchins breaking the mood with their chipmunk voices.
...are you serious?
If the person in question joined a VOIP or MUMBLE squad then he or she is a noob and knows nothing of it, many times the SL says that a mic/mumble is needed before kicking. No person with sufficient knowledge of this game would join a squad with VOIP disabled, it's just a ridiculous thought. Anyone willing to do that should play another game instead. Comms are vital.
No one has mic's anymore?

If i may point out, school has also started for many of the players. this means when you're playing perhaps all the good players are off studying, and the bad players are on. I would also venture to guess that most "good" PR players are the types to have self discipline and would be studying instead of playing, where the bad players who waste assets and noob about jumping out of perfectly good choppers are the ones that forget homework and go play. after all PR is the type of game which requires patience and discipline among the players.
Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

Jesus people calm down... This thread is basicly a question why no one has mics.... I know NWA and that have mic tankers 24/7 but still.
But this heli squad in TG was on mumble and he said he didn't have a mic... I was like WTf?

As long as the pilot can hear you and understands where you want to go, i don't see why it is so important for him to have a mic.mattnett1 wrote:But this heli squad in TG was on mumble and he said he didn't have a mic... I was like WTf?
Also consider the possibility that the pilot did have a mic but couldn't use it for various reasons, like being late and family members sleeping in the room or just simply being unlinked after flying out of bounds.
And finally, i would take a player with brains and no mic over a player with mic and no brains any day

Re: No one has mic's anymore?
If you don't have a mic chances are there is a very very valid reason behind it, just because you have "X" or "Y" toy doesn't mean everyone else on the playground does as well. All computers are not created equal, let's keep that in mind. Setting my dad's mic up on his laptop was a PAIN IN THE ***. I spent a few hours trying to get it working properly, and this is after he spent a while himself. We are both quite savvy computer nerds with massive amounts of experience between us, but if we didn't have each other to bounce ideas off we probably would have just called it a loss.
If we're talking about people who find excuses to have a mic and not use it then we're talking about people who might not be cut out for the PR environment. The same goes for all those people who throw illegitimate excuses out defending their abstinence from mumble.
