I'm kind of stuck on the Crossfire thing, as our situations are so similar and it worked for me...
Windowed mode seems impossible but when I disable crossfire with either radeon pro / ccc i get 0% usage from the 2nd GPU in afterburner so I think it works.
Anyhow I play the game with crossfire off and I did some things with PB and the game don't seem to give me the freeze that often anymore. When I made this thread the game was unplayable for me. I don't know if it's from the fixes you guys have given me but after a computer restart or 2 the game suddenly seems to work. Got a feeling that it might be something related to realtek / punkbuster.
I really appreciate the time you guys have spent helping me with this.
I'm going to test some things and if I get the game 100% stable I will report back.

add this to your shortcut
So it looks like this in Target line of your shortcut properties:

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +fullscreen 0 +szx 1440 +szy 900
1440x900 is screen resolution. Replace with whatever you use, or lower since its windowed.

Seems like it was a crossfire problem after all. Joined 6 different server while in windowed mode and my computer haven't frozen once. Still it's strange that I can join local servers while playing the game with crossfire on.
Thanks for all the help that I've gotten. The thread can be locked now.
