Re: "Is it really Jabal without a dam?"
we need a jabal replacment :L its a good map but i feel if we expended on what already there you could incorporate parts of the north side of the river into the gamplay ... its very .... wasteful in terms of map space and usage IMO

Re: "Is it really Jabal without a dam?"
The Dam as a barrier gives the map greater expanse and much in the same way as korengal creates supply lines for the mec to fight over without the irritation of trees blocking your line of site all the time and the enoying pot holes you have to jump from, jabal is nice and smooth while being difficult to traverse. the whole hair pinning of the roads without the ability to cheat by cutting across terrain makes it probably my favourite map. However even though I think the Dam is important it is only ONE of the MANY cool things on the map.

They should totally release Atlantis (Jabal v.2) in 1.0. Introduce harpoons and stuff.K4on wrote:the damn on jabal is useless. if river gets filled, the jabal city will be the new atlantis and also the water can flew over the western road into the sea.

New question: would Jabal with a geographically correct dam still be Jabal?

For that one Ill go with yes, but does that mean your gonna move the half the map "up"? also I just relized, the east and west side of the map are at sea level, and if Im not mistaken they both have a fairly even road up to the MEC main and city, if water level rises up to the dam, the city would be flooded. afak the only way to fix is a) remove the dam, b) lower it or c) move map up

No, I was thinking of moving the dam to the west beach valley and give the rest of the map some other PoI's.ma21212 wrote: does that mean your gonna move the half the map "up"?...

Hmm depends...can you give us a quick layout of what you think to move? I wouldn't open that passage to sea, either place small dam with bridge above so amphibious vehicles cant pass it, or dunno...close it completely.'[R-DEV wrote:Outlawz7;1747062']New question: would Jabal with a geographically correct dam still be Jabal?

The Dam has a certain charm, but the map would probably still play out pretty similarly. Same map.

Remove dam, replace with a big bridge across a river? Lord knows I used to love blowing up bridges before they put the avlb in. Especially the one coming from the MEC base.

Nice you giving the map some love.[R-DEV]Outlawz7 wrote:No, I was thinking of moving the dam to the west beach valley and give the rest of the map some other PoI's.
Consider lowering the view distance for game play reasons. I think it's to long, considering it was design for shorter. Ie, if you build a FOB in SE corner the flag on the east beach is impossible to take for MEC etc.
Maybe, make it a kind of sand storm or something. Would be cool.
The MEC main could be moved more north west so it gets way from the city fighting.

Id like to see MEC main in some really fortified hills with AAA guns overlooking the city. This would bring it to a whole new level, with even heavier assets involved.

After reading the other post I am still staying at "No". Correction. "Hell No".'[R-DEV wrote:Outlawz7;1747062']New question: would Jabal with a geographically correct dam still be Jabal?
Either make a completely new map (AKA extended edition) or dont do anything at all. You cant and wont do anything cool to the map by (re)moving the dam. If anything the map would be even more screwed after finally making the map balanced.

To me Jabal is three things - Great vertical diferencies in terrain, the dam, and attack huey
If the dam is absurd or not does not matter at all, when you play the map, i.e. it does not change to gameplay. But if you want to give it some love and maybe move the dam, Im all for it.

No, because it would be too easy to go across, except if the mountains were still on both sides, then it would be no-mans land.'[R-DEV wrote:Outlawz7;1747062']New question: would Jabal with a geographically correct dam still be Jabal?
The realistic Fu She Pass/Dragon Valley style dams that the boats can drive through are just too small, you may as well have a bridge. Unfortunately Joe had it right with Jabal 2's layout.

Re: "Is it really Jabal without a dam?"
Geographical oddities aside, I think Jabal needs the dam. In fact, I think PR needs more maps like it, maps that feel unique and interesting, like Muttrah or that new scandinavian looking map, instead of more afghan compoundfests, endless forests with the same soviet architecture sprinkled in them or flat deserts/terrain that looks like it came out of a random generator. Get some static modellers and get creative! I mean with the whole "WW3" thing you can basically think up whatever cool scnario you want, so why keep coming back to the same kind of middle eastern maps? I want to hunt a weapon cache in some South american drug lords' kitschy villa or assault a Russian observation post in a medieval castle somewhere in eastern europe. I mean the possibilities are endless.

Only limited by the amount of static object types the team can use, which... is mostly middle eastern / eastern european countryside / chinese.^^

Isn't the whole point of modding making some new stuff? If you can make a tank, you can also make a house. Probably even easier.

Build a road from West Beach to the top of Dam?

Re: "Is it really Jabal without a dam?"
With out the dam it just wouldn't be the Jabal I know and love. Yes it looks werid, but I have long stopped worrying and find it part of the carm of the map.
How about having it be for tidal power? Lower the dam into the water more and it will look better.
A second idea is to have it a part of a large scale project to make a new artificial lake as the main base of the MEC's navy. The idea is to have a safe body of water with acess to the sea via channel. By rising the water level they could have more area to work. With it being artificial, enemy subs and such would have a hard time getting to it. Such a megaproject is in line with the idea of the MEC being loaded with cash and a ugre to arm it's self.
To add to this idea put some sign that work will soon start in the side beachs. This would make the map feel like it makes more sense, but at the same time change little about how the map plays.
Overall this idea requires little work, adds something to the character of the MEC (which is some what lacking), and keeps things just the way they are for players who hate to see anything change (as in everyone after a time).
