But not in BF2

R.
Realism has plenty to do with it. Yes, helicopters are used to drop paratroops. But conventional forces (with the exception of long-range surveillance and pathfinder units, which are often the same thing) are generally only trained in static line parachuting with non-maneuverable or less-maneuverable canopies. Static-line parachuting, where the ripcord is pulled by a static-line (hence the name) in the aircraft when the paratrooper exits the aircraft (and not when the parachutist voluntarily pulls it), is not implemented in this engine. So we get to have everybody with a parachute in this lovely engine with the ability to free-fall/HALO insert with a high degree of maneuverability in the canopy.
Also, parachute insertions aren't some half-assed, spur of the moment undertaking by low-echelon commanders in the middle of combat onto assault zones that are constantly shifting in control and being pelted by
their own aircraft. Weather (not implemented in engine) and airspace control (definitely not implemented on public server) are also factors.
Original poster, I noticed you are on the opposite side of this issue in your thread in the ARMA2 suggestions section. Do you want pilots to be able to jump out of helicopters or not? Pick a side.

I'm all for paratroopers ingame, but as Eddie said, it has to be done properly. That means the kind of scenario on Silent eagle, where there is a large strength of troops deployed via (presumably) planes.
If you are so desperate to be paratroopers whenever the need arises in you no matter how unrealistic, I recommend Joint Operations by Novalogic (if thats still running lol, fond memories)

Why do helicopter pilots have parachutes anyway? That is a silly concept to me, especially in a gunship.

Assuming you have a big enough backpack to fit inside an AH-64, even if your nonresistant to the High G's of a spiraling, plummeting helicopter; most likely, lets just say your gonna get a little "haircut."

Because jet pilots carry parachutes, so you can't have 2 pilot kits, so helicopter pilots get one too.

pilots can certainly tip the helicopter on it's side and hop out in real life.
Also, it's worth mentioning the KA-50, and 52 have ejection seats. The rotors have some explosives wired to the ejection lever, which blow them off.

Yeah, sorry badly worded post on my part. What I meant was that the restriction on pilots kits not being able to ride passenger in air vehicles wasn't done for realism sake. It's just another unrealistic limitation we live with because it means better gameplay.

Paratroopers dont take off from base, go 2km to X direction and jump, it just doesnt work that way.
And if pilots change seat rapidly, they wont die.

It'd be nice if in the future you guys wouldn't post on the forum about ways to exploit the protection systems in PR. If you feel these things should be shared with the dev team you can send them a private message or post in the bugs section.
Posting it here in general discussion will only result in more people using the exploit. In this case, posting the details of the exploit didn't even add anything to the discussion. If it was brought up because it means the restriction isn't effective, you could have just said an exploit exists, you didn't have to tell people exactly how to do it.
Just my 2cents.

Its not glitch, its a feature! Someone just forgot to add it in the changelog.
