Well by the docs Im wrong its PCI-E slot. Odd looking one though. If 6450 wouldn't want to work with it I doubt any other better will. 6450 is low end graphic card its not meant for gaming. Its not spending much power, while high end graphic cards require much more Watts from you PSU and additional power supply line connected to it.

You will probably need to buy better power supply and a graphic card. If you can buy a complete new PC, this one is pretty much outdated.

That motherboard is not going to accept any Radeon HD 6450.

The motherboard is only PCI Express 1.0a standard for the Pcie-16x slot , you will need to go find a card from the older generation of PCI-E 2.0 video cards, like a HD 4650 or HD 4670 that is truly compatible with the PCI Express 1.0a.

The PCI-E 2.1 graphics cards are NOT always compatible. And the PCI-E 3 cards like the HD 6450 you bought also have problems.

You basically are looking for a graphics card manufactured before mid-2009. You also want to find a card that sips power, as your PSU is 300W but is older so it has reduced output due to aging.

Here is a list from Newegg, at a minmum as said above a HD 4650 or 8600GT would be the minimum.
Make sure you do not buy a card that uses too much Wattage.

I'd suggest a HD 4650, HD4670, or GeForce GT430 or GT440
make sure it is PCI-E 2.0 and not PCI-E 2.1 !!

I would get an Nvidia GeForce, they're better imo and I always used GeForce's (7650 GS (bad), 9600 GT (quite ok) and now GTX 570 (awesome) ).

My older 9600 GT was juuust a little too weak to play huge maps on highest settings, so I recommend u at least a 9800 GT(X?) or even those (by LITOralis) recommended "GeForce GT430 or GT440":

If your PCI-E slot is not damaged and if your PSU has enough Watts to supply them then yes.

You should disable your onboard graphic chip in BIOS and set it to boot on PEG/PCI-E graphic card, shut it down, install new card, make sure its seated properly, connect any power lines to it if required, and then turn your PC back on.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING INSIDE YOU PC DISCONNECT POWER LINE FIRST AND GROUND YOURSELF.

I'd also wait before order until the DEVs here (e.g. LITOralis) makes a suggestion 4 any special graphics card... 4 one of the named above for example.

My honest opinion without sitting in fron t of the PC to look at it,

If your PC has the original power supply unit (PSU) from the factory, it is unlikely to be able to supply enough Watts to power a GPU.

The GeForce GT430 1GB Max Power Draw: 49 W
The Radeon HD4650 1GB PCie Max Power Draw: 48 W

Make a gamble:
Buy one of the above and plug it in following Massive's directions above.

If your PC can not supply enough power, you have to buy a new PSU.

If buying a new PSU, you can optionally then upgrade to the GeForce GT440 or Radeon HD4670, but it will cost more and the upgrade is going to be a a small increment improvement, it isn't going to be amazing.

For BF2 R, the GT430 and HD4650 will be fine at med/high details.

Ouch... slim version... will a card fit in there?

thats why i am cautious of buying one, as i said before last time i bought a card for this computer, it broke and the card was just to big for the case. can i buy or install and integrated graphics card (chip) like the one i am using but 10x as better.

I don't know. Wait for an expert to answer here (a DEV probably).

Your power supply unit is not sufficient. Its total 280W combined output and it will not be able to power any of those cards.

What you need to do is to upgrade your PSU to at least 450 - 500W, but since that PC is OEM, chances are its PSU is not in standard size, so 'regular' power supply units will not be fitting in your case. Just a guess, you need to check this.

Then you can concentrate to graphic card. Were you able to fit this card to your case properly?



This card is low profile model designed to fit in slim cases and alike. If you were not able to fit this one in, I'm afraid you will not be able to fit any of mentioned.

If so, you will need to go to third option of purchasing a larger case, and repacking your components in new larger case, so you can get better PSU, and install better graphic card.


Bottom line, I think it might be best for you to go to your local repair shop, and explain what kind of PC you have and what do you want to do with it ( upgrade a graphic card ), and they will give you adequate solution. This is if you think you will not be able to manage it yourself.

i was able to get the card in, it was only a couple of CM out so i was not able to get the side panel on probably but i am not really bothered about it because i can just lean the side panel on the case..

you can see on Nvidia specs page for the card that minimum PSU requirement is 300W

Yours is 280W so its really on the limit and a bit under it.

As Litoralis said, you might try to gamble and get this card, and if it wont power up, you will need to get new power supply unit.

I already said that your PSU might not be standard size, so check that first before you do anything. I already explained above what you need to do if this is the case.
