A hotel in Las Vegas ->

Monte Carlo Cribs featuring Emil Bjoerklund - YouTube

"We have a high speed internet connection, so it says on this sign over here. What that means is; 1 mb/s download aproximentely and 0.2 mb/s upload."

Probably not a real example of US internet, but still a bit funny ;)

I don't want to burst your bubble but the US has shitty internet compared to most of the western countries and especially a lot of Easter European countries. The US even ranks behind Congo.

Yes, our US Internet is pretty awful compared to what I see of Europe. But people also forget is that it has to service over 300 million people.

What difference does that make?

The large population in the US doesn't have a thing to do with the slow internet connections. Fact is, euro countries with fast internet subsidize the internet, and there is more competition. In the SF Bay Area comcast has a monopoly and I'm sure they have that is many metropolitan areas, and the fact is, that comcast provides the fastest internet to the public.

US internet sucks because of our politics... but anyways, I connect fine to any euro servers.. and I'm in California, at least 5K miles from europe

Because our country is fucking huge and you can't possibly expect every single area to have amazing internet. Japan is easy because it's tiny compared to the US and the fiberoptics and such wouldn't cost nearly as much as running in through a country that's only 3% as big as the United States. Also it wasn't really stressed in the US as something we needed until about now.

Do you think that Russia has an average connection faster than that of the US? Probably not.

According to this source, Russia's average connection is faster than USA's.

However, my argument is still valid, just it seems that Russia has put more money into that we have. They also have half of the population but about twice the area as the US. If I recall correctly most of the Russians live on the Western side, so it would be easy to spread the internet over that area cost effectively.

First thing, you guys have states. Your United States is like an United States of Europe. Some states obviously have better internet then others, like Texas, New York and California. And setting up fiber cables doesn't have to be a state issue, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore have very little government spending, so I doubt they funded a cable across their land like you might think.

Here's the study threw my eye's we are comparing average internet speed to ____ (blank) they never say where they did their download study from, but i'm guessing local server, then account the population

311,591,917 U.S.A.

48,875,000 South Korea

do the average of everyone's speed and compile it and what you get is complete bullshit

pando networks who did the study are retards, VERNE G. KOPYTOFF who writes this shit is a retard, he's blog is full of useless shit

People believe all kinds of crazy shit these days :P

You mean the internet where T-Com had the monopoly and charged ludicrous prices while refusing to go above 4 MBps?

Yankees face it. Your theory about numbers go down the drain when you actually read up how many people there are in europe.

I know people from Down-Under that play on European servers with a ping of roughly 250+. They experience laggy moments and generally suck at shooting anything in CQB but they haven't encountered any problems similar to yours that I know of (and thats about ~10.000 miles FYI). Same goes for some lads from California (~5700 miles).

Distance doesn't matter, your connection does.

A continent that has several different countries with several different lines, companies and currency's with a population of well over 700 Million people has better internet than 1 single country with 300 Million inhabitants does. A country so large with only so few providers resulting in no competition, it's got nothing to do with the size or amount of people that are in your country. The Netherlands with 17 Mil. inhabitants and 40000 km2 has about the same amount of (actual) providers the US does.

Get over yourself, you really wanted to answer to your question, you got it. Now several US people in here have explained that they have absolutely no problem with connecting to German (European) servers, including someone from California. So unless you live in Alaska or Hawaii I would say that the main reason you are having trouble is due to either your home connection or due to a problem with the connection in your local area.
