I think practicing offline is overrated. Obviously you have to learn some basic skills like flying lower, landing and hovering, but there's not that much skill involved in piloting helicopters in PR, the most you can learn about flying is flying online. Here you will learn to be aware of what's going on on the map, learn usual landing zones and various routes to them, develop necessary decision making and other stuff.
After flying online for a bit, you'll get a better understanding of what you can improve on, and then you can try out some stuff offline again. Maybe there was a fast approach with a tricky landing zone that you learned about while having to fly online, and you can try doing it offline, or try to figure out better routes, etc.
Oh, also forgot to mention that Operation Archer is one of the more challenging maps to fly transport on. It's good practice.

Why not? If it has long timer like 30 ofc u can abuse it and fly there so noone shoots you.

Then you know what you're risking. There are very few maps where you have to fly out of the map in order to survive.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. Reading your replies I realize I should get a few more offline hours into the game. Will leave chinook alone for now.
See you all in a helicopter some time this weekend probably. Lives will be lost...

Don't just practice normal flying when offline, go ahead and do some crazy manouvers and stupid stunts. You will crash a lot, but this way you'll learn the limits of the choppers and know what you shouldn't do online.
What i also found to be a good training is to load up muttrah and cruise the streets of the city with the huey. You don't have to go fast, but try to fly as close to the ground as you can.
Just move around as you would with a jeep, doing sharp turns on corners and trying to fit into tight alleys and warehouses.
This will get you familiar with the size of the chopper and teach you valuable lessons about overcorrecting.
Also, practice hovering and landing on slopes.

Yes, this is probably the best way to build your skills and comfort levels with the choppers. Try all sorts of stuff, nothing is out of bounds. Know how high you have to be in order to execute a barrel roll in each of the choppers at hovering, full speed, and climbing. Know that magic spot (around 22 or 20% for most) where the helicopter hovers. Know where the crates drop out and the spot where the Kiowa canons and missiles go to on the HUD and for every chopper for that matter. See an alleyway when your in the chinook and it looks too small? Try to land there anyways. Basically, if you aren't dying a lot, you're not training right.

i know. this is maybe stupid sugestion but it can help. first, ask a friends
to shot you. to see your reaction and stuff like that.
and some time went you get hit, try to land it fast
(you have few second before losing control).
And Second try to find the pefect speed (in a wide space environement) for a landing without damaging your helicopter
(i hope you understand me. my english is not pefect)

Btw, do not need to practice flying chopper upside down.
Some server apparently will ban you for that.

since this is up id like to ask for some quick advice, when im flying huey, especially CAS huey i have problems pulling up with mouse sometimes, ( my joystick is cheap and no good for helis, so im gonna stick to M&K) so my question is, should i change the sensitivity in my controls or just pull away from the dive earlier?

don't worry, as an avid infantry player i'll tell you this. the only difference between a good pilot and a bad pilot in my books is the good pilot knows when to tell me, "no i'm not doing that."

paul what I do( practice with this a little) is if you hold S the back of your helicopter drops really fast, so if you get good at controlling that you can use that sharp drop to level off quicker, sometimes it works better then just trying to pull out of it.

If you're inexperienced and you dive too steep with your Huey it will most likely hit the ground without being able to do anything about it. Make sure you don't dive too steep, and tap S all the time.

@saxoni, do you know, whether there is actually a dive-difference between huey and cobra? Cobra pulls up easier, huh?

Yes, there is a major "dive-difference" between the Huey and Cobra. Try diving straight down with the Huey, and start pulling up 50 feet above the ground - see you in Paradise.

just know in which area you are gonna land and try to slower down a few hundred meters away to land on a exact spot... and one of the most important things transport pilots do forgot is the way where they come in from... dont fly over all your enemies because it will give away your position and the squad in the helicopter his position...
one of the important things is also try to land fast and take of fast, and before taking off make sure you know where youre going and do not forgot the last choice is yours

As many people already have stated; the chopper is yours. You do whatever you feel is necessary in order to keep you and your chopper alive. If you don't want to land a squad where the squad wants you to land, that's okay, regardless of how pissed off they will get.
Other than that, I'd just like to say good luck. Get on a public server and start flying, as that's the easiest way to learn.
Remember; better safe than sorry.
