The gain is very minimal compared to changing the view distance and it's also legit.

i found in google some ways to decrease the fog by editing the game files, but after i tried it , it seems that it really worked, but i get kicked by PB for using MD5 TOOL

its not realistic..
and its annoying

anybody else agree that the fog of war need to be removed or atleast to be decreased

No, and if you edit game files you will be kicked by Punkbuster by MD5 mismatch and some admins might take a SS of your game and start asking questions around, which can get you banned for good.

Dont edit game files.

this distance is highly dependent on the view distance of each map, which is chosen on a performance vs longer distance basis...

also since you've seen the game files, you KNOW its more than 200m
Pretty much this and a some way of balancing and limiting certain weapons capabilities.

First fog of war I saw was in Warcraft and Generals long time go ;-)

I think default should be on 90% when you first start, not sure though.

Its only legit because its hardcoded. Ultimately having a better computer or internet connection is cheating, its just nothing that we can control. I remember some people complaining in the PRT way back when that it wasn't fair that the servers were all in Europe while most of one team was American and most of the other was European or something. But none of that mattered cause I knew one guy who had such bad net that he had a 700 ping sometimes, and somehow he was better than most people.

Its all relative, and honestly how long can this mod stay alive if we handicap ourselves with tech limits. I mean, my compute ris 5 years old and is finally starting to be old enough to not play some new games, but PR doesn't even make it break a sweat.

Oh, and you can scale the draw distance just like the other settings so how is that not legit too?

I always thought fog of war was involved when you TK a friendly player due to nametag not showing in server with higher than 64 player capacity.

Anyway, I'd like to say that it is indeed a very bad idea to mess with game files unless it is for the purpose of creating a mini-mod or private mod within PR.

Don't gain an unfair advantage. Yes, the terrain settings can also offer unfair advantages, but sadly that cannot be changed. View distances however have been changed to be balanced and fair and should be the same for all people whose computers meet the requirements to properly play Projet Reality.

Yes, but everyone can profit from that, while changing the game and map files is "cheating" "hacking". If I was using a soundmod that makes enemy footsteps louder that would be cheating

My computer can handle A2 with 4k+ view distance, I'm sure most people could handle a huge view distance but having played on the test airfield map I can say it's not going to look like the OP assumes. Terrain morphing is disgusting, the one hill/mountain on that map warps nonstop. Even at 200-300 meters the terrain often doesn't render properly and people end up shooting at a guy behind the ridge, leads to both the shooter and the target saying "wtf".

Lowering terrain detail does indeed give you an "easier" time spotting enemies but in this game player models never really blend in (excluding Tad Sae bushes, but that's because it's night).

I'm not talking about hacking the game files, I'm talking about having the draw distance set higher in the actual mod since the world is moving on technologically. If people still can't handle it with their dinosaur rigs then you can just use the built in draw distance scaling option that is part of the options. Those people who can't handle the max draw just drop it 10 or 15% and stay out of tanks or tell the SL they don't want the HAT kit.

Murphy wrote:This thread makes me want to play Warcraft (remember that game that existed before MMORPGS?)......

I have always wanted massive view distances so the assets can play more true to reality, but that would lag everyone to hell and it's probably not fun for the infantry.
Infantry... tasty.

On topic though there are maps that have been redone with far greater view distance, better lighting & shading while not breaking FPS, it actually increased by about 20. Al Basrah 2 anyone?

So increasing view distance isn't impossible it's just about how one goes about doing it.

Hi, i noticed a problem with a view distance, when i set it to a random number between 50 % and 100%, press apply and the view distance resets back to default (50 or 100). The problem is i cant choose random VD number. Anybody could explain this?

My resolution 1152x864@75hz everything on low.

There is a problem like that with the Audio Cue, that also can't be set to a random number.

I must say I agree, it's time to increase the viewdistance on some maps, specially the ones with Heavy assets/CAS ones.

People who cant really handle it can always turn it down.

Please devz give us 500+ meters or something. Its really reality-breaking when you gdt so inmersed in the game specially while flying and can't even see the ground to either attack or land. Plz
